I’ve completed 5 CDV trips and have another one on the books. You can’t go wrong with fabulous farm to table meals you help prepare, wonderful regional wines, meeting people who become your friends and travel companions, the hosts for the week are delightful, learning more about different cultures and SO MUCH MORE. Each region offers its own exciting adventure which makes it hard to choose just one.
This company is absolutely fantastic. I have travelled a lot and the experiences with Culture Discovery Vacations are among the best I have ever had. Small groups getting to see and experience the food and culture together with the guides that treat you like family and become friends. You meet people you will travel with again and again. If you want to experience what a region of a country is like and do it with local families, this is the company for you. I have done 5 trips with them and have 3 more scheduled. Don’t miss them.
We have been on at least 12 trips with Culture Discovery Vacations over the past five years and every trip has been amazing. People often ask us “ which trip is your favorite?” And we always respond “all of them!” The CDV team, our CDV family, consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that we experience life as the locals do. Whether it’s cooking, dancing and singing, exploring with local friends and family, or experiencing true cultural immersion on a working ranch, every trip is a new adventure. With CDV you spend a lot of time on the road less travelled finding out what is behind the doors that are closed to tourists and seeing around corners where only the locals go. I’ve taken five wonderful trips with CDV since 2022, visiting Italy, Croatia, Madrid & Uruguay. Each journey has created beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.I’ve met incredible people from all over the world and enjoyed far too many unforgettable experiences to count. The hosts have been absolutely amazing - warm, attentive, and truly dedicated to making sure every guest is well cared for.The food, the wine, and the wonderful sense of family have made every trip feel so special. My husband and I have taken quite a few trips with CDV, starting back in 2007 when the company was just starting up. If you want to go to all the tourist places and fight the crowds, maybe CDV isn't for you. If you want to connect with the people, feel like part of the place you are visiting, immerse in their local world, make friends (and more like family) for life, then you will love CDV. We have made life-long friends (and family) on their trips. You can go night fishing on a small local boat, go to the neighbors to make your own pizza in their backyard pizza oven, swim in hidden coves with NO tourists there. You will eat at new friends' tables and help them herd cattle, doctor the sheep, and eat more steak than you thought existed in the world. You will help prepare meals side by side with them. It is more than a "tour" - it is a life experience. You will never want to go on a traditional "tour" again.
There just aren’t enough starts to rate CDV. We began touring with CDV in 2016. When we were in Sicily in 2024 my husband knew that this would be his last big trip and his wish was that it would have ended in Soriano. After we both had separate accidents a few days later we were hospitalized, me for 12 days and my husband for 13. When we were discharged from the hospital neither of us were permitted to fly for another 2 weeks. CDV brought us to Soriano to recuperate by overnight ferry. Our nightmare turned into a fairytale and we were ever so grateful. My husband passed away 4 months later and I sent him off with a CDV apron in his coffin along with other items that had special meaning to him. When they say you are family you truly are. Unless you take a trip with CDV you just can’t understand. I just took my 5th trip with CDV in February and will be going to Croatia in September and Amalfi next May. And when people tell me oh I’ve been there in my mind I always say “no you haven’t”.
CDV is not your typical travel group. They have vetted every hour of your vacation to be sure everything is top notch. We have done three tours with them that have all been life changing. They make you feel like family! Book with them today-you’ll be so glad you did! LOVE CDV!
If you want a true, immersive experience in Italy, this is the tour for you. Groups are small and interactions are personal. I felt sad to say goodbye to all the Italian friends who made our stay so special. I look forward to attending other CDV experiences.
In September 2025 we traveled with CDV in Sicily. This was our second CDV trip (first was in Soriano Italy in April 2017) From start to finish this trip exceeded our expectations and reminded us why traveling with CDV is so special. The small group size (13) made for close connections and lots of fun. Our main group leader was energetic and accommodating but kept us on task so we got the most out of our experience. This trip was the perfect blend of intimate personalized experiences in local homes with local artisans and “must see” opportunities in “tourist” locations. Making chocolate in Módica and arancini on a pistachio farm were two favorite local experiences. Our off road adventure on Mount Etna was spectacular as was the tour of the salt flats in Marsala to name just a few of the “tourist” experiences. We had time to explore and rest which isn’t always a priority with group travel, but CDV gave options that allowed us to join in or sit back and relax. This was a big trip and traveling for 12 days with strangers can sometimes feel long. I can honestly say we left feeling like our new friends were family and were so sad to reach the end of our journey. From start to finish, we didn’t have to think of anything. Local tours were intimate, engaging and well organized; local foods, drinks and meals were plentiful and included. Our accommodations were all unique to the areas we stayed in, each one outdoing the one before. (Seaside resort, farmhouse B&B and boutique winery resort). The connections we made with our leaders, hosts and travel companions were unforgettable. We look forward to traveling again.
We did the Cooking in Paradise trip on the Amalfi Coast it was absolutely amazing. We are returning for the inaugural trip in Barcelona in Octobet and can't wait!If you are considering a trip with CDV, do yourself a favor and do it. You will not be disappointed.
