Katherine has a way of making you feel at home and at ease that I’ve never experienced anywhere else before. It was a deeply reflective time for me, which was in and of itself amazing. But she honed an environment that made it easy to do so too.
Her cooking was incredible, her energy was amazing and aside from the guided meditations (which I found both enlightening and calming), in the 10 minutes I spent finally talking during the sharing circle at the end, she gave me more to consider and think about than months of therapy gave me. It was profound to me.
Highly recommend going to do this.
I came across this retreat by chance and was instantly drawn to the idea of silent mediation in the company of horses. After a few very difficult years personally, I wasn’t looking to “fix” anything - I simply needed space, rest, and something nourishing. When this retreat appeared online, I knew immediately it was the one.
From the moment I arrived, I felt deeply cared for. Katherine’s warmth, the delicious food, and the peaceful energy of my beautiful pink and blue room set the tone for the whole experience. Meeting my fellow guests too on the arrival evening, felt as if we had known each other for much longer than a few hours. The gentle structure of the days was incredibly calming. Mornings were my own - time to walk along the beach, explore the nearby National Trust woods on a run, or simply be, read, and journal. That freedom, held within such a safe setting, was profoundly restorative.
Each afternoon was spent with Stan, the gentle giant of a shire horse, whose presence was unlike anything I’ve experienced before. Being with him in silence brought a deep sense of peace and grounding that is hard to put into words. Evenings closed with meditation, anchoring the day and deepening the stillness and experience.
Silence itself became a surprisingly easy and welcome gift - creating a quiet and safe space to be yourself, and a calm that has stayed after the retreat ended. Leaving the silence together and sharing the closing circle was joyful and deeply moving. I wasn’t sure what to expect, however this (simple) break has been transformative, and which I know will have a lasting impact. I cannot recommend this retreat highly enough and will absolutely return.
First silent retreat so not sure what to expect. The retreat was well planned and explained, great food, horses amazing presence, meditations structured but not intrusive, time for coastline walks and rest. So being silent with no screen/phone time was a peaceful and reflective space to just be. Thank you Katherine and equines.

A non-intrusive yet appropriately supportive, reflective retreat space, bringing peace and quiet for silent contemplation and data-detox.The equines add that extra special touch of peacefulness to show you how. Excellent food and spacious room. A lovely and hard-working hostess.
I did the Silent meditation with horses retreat and if I had to sum it up in as few words as possible I’d say it was profound, peaceful, unexpectedly emotional, and a welcome homecoming. In more words: Katherine holds a very gentle space with such presence and skill. There's so much that clearly goes into the organisation from behind the scenes, from the food to the time with the horses to the guided meditations back home and more - a lot to keep on top of! Even though Katherine has all this to organise, she still shows up to each session with an abundance of calm, deep presence, and easeful intuitive guiding. Before arriving I was really quite stressed. But I left the retreat with a renewed appreciation for, and understanding of Winter, silence, wordless communication, and the way time can stretch long and slow when there is nowhere else to go. I got to reconnect with horses and meditation in a thoughtfully accessible way that even lead to naps in the lounge, which shows how relaxed I felt as I'm not usually a napper in group spaces! It's hard to even put it all into words, as so much happened in my internal process, which I am very grateful to Katherine for and this beautiful part of the world and the horses. I already miss my quiet, peaceful room in the sanctuary of a home Katherine welcomed is into.Final point - I have coeliac so have to eat gluten free and Katherine was very good about making the meals gluten free and helping keep me safe food wise. I felt very well nourished and my tummy was happy with the food. Even though it was a silent retreat, she made use of written notes if there was anything to cover about the food so that was really helpful and reassuring for me.
I went on the week-long silent meditation retreat with horses because I felt completely overloaded. I was navigating perimenopause and becoming a carer, with no real space in my life, just constant to-do lists and mental chatter. I got more out of the experience than I ever could have hoped for.Katherine has a deeply grounded warmth that made me feel completely held throughout the week. She has so much wisdom to share and the way she facilitated the week made it feel like a year of therapy in a short space of time; gently processing childhood trauma, letting go of long-held negative thought patterns, and feeling deeply spiritually connected.Meditating with the horses was beautiful. I felt present, calm, and deeply regulated in a way that’s hard to put into words. The meditations were powerful, and the horses are truly gorgeous. I had many special moments grooming them and simply being with them. But it’s so much more than that. The wisdom, the company, the food, the beautiful surroundings, the perfect balance of activities and time to yourself. I left with more space, clarity, and a real sense of coming back to myself.
This retreat saved me at a time I was so buried in grief from a recent passing and childhood trauma that I wasn't sure i could continue in a world so empty. With Kathryn's compassion, nuture and calming ways she gave me the space to breathe again. I was apprehensive as ive never done a silent retreat but it created an environment for me to be me again. I was also nervous of the big Shire horse but by day two felt comfortable around Stan to get cuddles and shed a tear or three. Very safe space from my shared ladies on the retreat where although we didn't speak we communicated in our way. The guided meditation was beautiful and plenty of downtime to read her lovely books and take a walk around the stunning area of Arnside. Learnt so much, shed the month long headache I was carrying and found my oxygen again. Will never forget the experience and will definitely be doing this or similar in the future.x
We loved this experience. Katherine is so lovely and welcoming, and her knowledge of horses is truly amazing. She made us feel completely safe to open up and fully relax. I highly recommend this experience, and I’m sure I’ll be joining her and her horses again in the future.
Meditation with Horses was absolutely fantastic! Katherine was really welcoming and had a lovely calming energy, and getting to spend time being mindful and present and relaxing around beautiful Betty was wonderful. I wasn't quite sure what to expect but I feel so calm and peaceful now, I would 100% go again and I would recommend it to anyone!
