I'm sorry but the person in front of me did not have immediately acceptable identification.It was very commendable that the counter staff did their best to somehow verify her identification, but not at the expense of the queue of people behind her. The solution was simple. She needed to return later with valid ID. Instead all sorts of things were done to try and validate it.I had organised my transaction online and had everything I needed. My transaction took a few minutes.I will seek alternatives in the future.Goodbye
They do not only charge commission but they give an autrocious exchange rate.When buying dollars with euro, the dollar sudden was worth more than the euro instead of the other way around. This costs you tens if not hundreds of euros extra. It’s akin to theft in my opinion. Do NOT use ever. PS After reading Travelex standard response I see not reason to change my opinion. There are better and cheaper ways to get your dollars for a much more fair price.
You are lured to their counter with a promise that you have not have to pay a fee (which is true), but then they have changed the currency rate so much that you only get about 70% of the actual market value. I changed €500 to japanese YEN at schiphol airport. Due to their inflated currency rate, I only got for €300 in value. It is a rip-off
Terrible service! I was on holiday in Canada and mid way through my card stopped working in shops, restaurants and ATMs. I called card services 3 times and each time they advised my card was not blocked, but I was unable to use it. I had a balance of 1700 Canadian Dollars in my account so it was not due to insufficient funds. On my return to the UK I have called card services and they have offered me the option to cash out at a very unfavorable rate plus wanted to charge another "cash out" fee which after lengthy discussion they did waive. I feel particularly aggrieved as I would not have retained such a balance on my return home and feel I have been cheated out of my money due to exchange rate. I have however now cashed out and closed my card as my patience has expired, and I would not recommend the Travelex card to anyone. For the remainder of my vacation I was forced to use my home debit card, a situation I intended to avoid, which totally negated any advantage of having the Travelex card l!PS I was offered a replacement card whilst in Canada but I was traveling so that was not a practical solution!
