"I sought help from a solicitor after a workplace incident, confident in my innocence due to CCTV footage. Despite their reassurances, I was told not to worry, but no action was taken. I spent eight months in jail, including over Christmas, away from my children. The solicitor also failed to appear at arranged appointments, leaving me even more isolated. "My experience with this solicitor was absolutely shocking. Communication was minimal from the very start; I tried to call, however, she never returned any calls. In fact, at the beginning, I was in another country trying to get in touch. However, once I returned home, I met with the solicitor only once in person throughout the entire eight months my brother was innocently remanded. Every time my brother phoned the office to speak to the solicitor, she was never present—always unavailable, either at lunch or too busy to take his calls. Despite this, she repeatedly told us not to worry, insisting my brother was innocent. Meanwhile, I spoke to my brother three times a day in prison, while he was told he had nothing to fear. The solicitor also relied on a trainee or PA for communication, but this trainee was never fully updated on my brother’s case, so they had no real understanding of what was happening. The solicitor was also aware that a co-defendant had inside access to CPS information, but she kept this from us until the very moment he was coerced into a guilty plea, despite being innocent. There was a complete lack of empathy and support throughout this entire ordeal. This failure caused devastating harm to my brother’s future and my family’s lives."
