I made an account and filled out all of my information. I tried to send money to myself for cash pickup in Kazakhstan. This required me to connect my bank account, provide my social security number (weird!), provide other personal information, take a photo of my passport, and take a selfie photo. I did all of that and tried to submit the transaction.
I immediately received an email saying the transaction won't be processed. I tried to log into my Moneygram account, and it repeatedly said my password was wrong. I went to "forgot password" and my options were to send a code to a phone number I didn't recognize (!) and to my email. I tried to send the code to my email multiple times and it was never sent.
I contacted support, and they told me my account was closed and cannot be re-opened. They said they did it for security reasons, and they refused to tell me more information. What?! I was sending money to myself. Whose security are they protecting? All of my documentation is obviously correct. Their system's automatic verification failed, and they don't do manual human reviews. So now they are perpetually refusing service to me. I can never use Moneygram online again.
My best guess is that their system isn't up to date and they weren't able to verify the newer American passports, which have a black and white photo with a transparent seal overlayed instead of the color photo found in the old passport design.
After using moneygram for over 20 years, sending hard earned money to my family, I was suddenly treated like a terrorist, my account was frozen because I did not validate myself in time. I realized my account was blocked so I reached out to moneygram, I was told the services would be returned within 24 hours but one month later I've been pushed aside
The only thing that satisfies me is that, when I send my money to my family, the money is ready to be pick up in minutes, no no hustle what so ever, and the other very important thing is not overly expensive, compared to western union, and that is the reason why I use money gram.
Easy transaction. Apparently the Caticlan and Boracay branches are not able to exchange foreigner currencies to Peso in person only through remittance. Are they able to do so. Hope this policy gets addressed.
I am writing this review to share my disappointment with MoneyGram’s recent handling of my account. What should have been a straightforward client relationship turned into a frustrating experience marked by disrespect and poor communication.
Without prior warning or meaningful explanation, MoneyGram decided to close my account under the pretext of “protecting our interest and security.” While companies have the right to safeguard their operations, the way this was executed showed little regard for the client. Instead of engaging transparently or offering a resolution, MoneyGram chose to act unilaterally, leaving me without access and without answers.
This approach raises serious concerns:
Lack of respect for clients: Decisions were made without dialogue, leaving me sidelined.
Poor communication: No clear explanation was provided, only vague references to “security.”
Disruption of trust: Closing accounts in this manner undermines confidence in MoneyGram’s ability to treat clients fairly.
MoneyGram’s actions demonstrate a disregard for the very people who sustain their business. Protecting corporate interests should never come at the expense of basic respect and transparency toward clients. Unfortunately, this experience has shown me that MoneyGram prioritizes its own convenience over customer trust.
I hope this review serves as a caution to others considering MoneyGram. Clients deserve better—respect, clarity, and accountability—not abrupt closures disguised as “security measures.”
I highly recommend this service for anyone needing to make international transfers. Since the shift to a new card network, it has been challenging to find an app that functions well. This service manages the new card system flawlessly. I successfully sent money to Nigeria in just minutes without encountering any issues. Fast, simple, and dependable!
MoneyGram stands out as a top money transfer service. However, I consistently face problems with the mobile app not functioning correctly. I reached out to the technical support team, but the issue remains unresolved. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times, yet I keep encountering the same error message: “Error: it’s not you, it’s us.” I typically use my laptop to send money, and aside from this app issue, the service itself is excellent.
I bought a money order and sent it to pay a bill, but the recipient never got it. I looked into the status, and it hasn't been cashed. While I can request a refund, there's a $15 fee deducted. I still need to settle that bill, so they end up taking part of my money.
I want to share my dissatisfaction with my latest experience using the service. I set up my profile and tried to send money, but the transaction was declined. Soon after, my account was unexpectedly closed. When I reached out to the support team, I was told I can no longer have an online account due to a security issue! This has led to a lot of inconvenience and frustration. If I could, I would give a negative rating for wasting my time. Very poor service.
