We arrived for our 11 AM rental pickup
at the Los Angeles Airport at 10:30 AM After
20 minutes in line
We were told that the car we reserved was not available.
that we could come back in 2 hours and it would be there or that we could get a different car right alway for $122 (more than twice the car we had reserved).
We decided to wait the additional two hours.

Returning at 1:00 PM there was a long line a 45 minute wait.
This time we had a different agent who repeated the same story that our car was not available but we could return in a couple of hours and it would be there,
or they did have a car but it would cost $40 additional. The agent appeared to smirk when he said it. Frustrated I complained, feeling we didn't have choice at that point we agreed to it. The agent laughed as he gave us the keys and paper work.
Also while waited the second time I could other custmers who seem to be having the issuse as us.

I recently rented from NU Car Rental in Phoenix after booking a prepaid “mystery car” through Pricel

I recently rented from NU Car Rental in Phoenix after booking a prepaid “mystery car” through Priceline. At the counter, I was told the vehicle assigned (a van) would be a “gas guzzler,” and I was offered a smaller SUV for $29/day.

What was not clearly explained was that this $29/day was in addition to the prepaid rate I had already paid through Priceline. I believed it was a substitute rate, not an added daily charge.

Only after returning from vacation did I realize I had effectively doubled my daily rental cost. While the paperwork did show the total, the way the pricing was presented at the counter was unclear and sales-driven rather than transparent.

I am not disputing that I signed the agreement. My concern is with how the pricing was explained. International travellers in particular should be very cautious about agreeing to any changes at the counter and confirm whether new rates are replacements or additional charges.

I contacted NU Car Rentals promptly and was told they reviewed my situation with a corporate manager and a local manager, which determined I knowingly paid double the price for a smaller less-expensive vehicle. When I called Priceline, they said there was nothing they could do either. Clearly both organizations care little about quality customer service and more about coercively bilking their customers.

With this expensive experience, I will definitely default to making zero changes at the counter in the future. And will never use NU Car Rentals again and will definitely be steering everyone I come into contact away from them.

I was a little nervous renting from Nu Car after reading some recent reviews, but my experience was actually completely fine. The pickup process was straightforward, the staff was professional and helpful, and the car was clean and I even got upgraded. Return was easy and I didn’t run into any surprise charges or issues. Overall, it was a smooth, no-stress rental, and I’d rent from them again based on this experience.

Booked a standard suv from NU CAR six weeks prior to pickup, and double-checked my insurance to be sure I would not need additional from rental company.

We are five person family, so needed the extra space for comfort with room for bags.

After an already long day of travel, we arrived on time for pickup, and was told the car booked was unavailable, but we would get a comparable car, yet would need extra insurance, and had to prepay for everything, as well as pay a $300 deposit.

Meanwhile I overheard another customer being told they could get a compact suv Nissan Rogue on special for less than half what I was paying, so I said I was curious if that might work for me, but was told it was not the same size as the car reserved, so could not be offered anyway, and there was nothing else on offer on the lot anyway, and with a three hour drive ahead before nightfall, I dropped the subject.

I then took the keys for the car thinking it was the standard suv, only to get to the lot to find we were in fact given the compact suv Rogue!

When I rechecked the contract, I then realized the Rogue had been switched to be listed as the car rented, and knew then I would be writing this review about NU Car’s unethical practice of lying about the need for extra insurance, and baiting me with one car only to switch it out for another when I took the keys.

There are also an additional ~25% extra fee charges on the bill for airport and other trumped categories, an elevated sales tax charge, and a 3% credit card charge.

Further the Rogue had over 50,000 miles on it, was not very powerful, and was indeed too small for our needs.

Then, after the three hour drive to our destination, I called NU Cat customer service to let them know I was unhappy with how I had been treated, and wanted an invoice adjustment at mimimim to reflect the car degrade and hassle.

‘Customer service’ acted line the payment made was unchangeable, and said all they could offer was a car correction if I wanted to drive back three hours immediately to do the swap!

Altogether, then, I suggest everyone avoid this company.

Did not get the car I rented. I needed an SUV for 6 WITH luggage. Received a Traverse that would not fit our luggage. Had to drop the 3rd row seat and stack luggage, and sit on laps. Ordered an Expedition. Agent told me we would be fine in a Traverse. Not even possible. Also, fees were an additional 145% on top of what I already paid for the rental!!!!! Also, NOT located at the airport. You have to shuttle, which is a mile walk to the shuttle area, with your luggage, then take a 10 minute ride TO the rental place to get your car.

A true scam. Booked a car for week. They said $60 which I knew sounded low but I figured they’re not gonna upcharge too much. I brought all my insurance papers from home but they said I still had to pay an extra $365 for another insurance. ( I have full coverage)
I had to take TWO shuttles to get there. I didn’t take the car but I still had to take a shuttle all the way back and find another car. It was a nightmare

Extremely disappointing car rental experience

I had an incredibly frustrating experience with this car rental service. The shuttle took an hour and a half to arrive at the airport, far exceeding the estimated 15-30 minutes. When I attempted to call for assistance, I was placed on hold several times and ultimately disconnected. I cannot recommend this service.

Very disappointed in the 'fine print'

Very disappointed in the 'fine print'. Lucky for me I was able to figure out why their rental was so cheap. If I would have traveled 'unlimited miles' and travelled into New Mexico as planned, they would have charged me .50 cents per mile extra for my entire trip. This 'unlimited miles' but local (specific states only allowed) restrictions tactic should be considered a fraudulent practice.

The most disappointing car rental experience I've ever had.

This was the most disappointing car rental experience I've ever had. I have used a specific booking platform for years and had always received dependable service until today. Unfortunately, my recent experience was completely unacceptable, and I want to clarify that my frustration is directed at the rental company, not the booking platform. Earlier today, I reserved a car for 5 days at an incredibly low rate of around $5 a day. Given my long history with the platform, I had high expectations regarding pricing. I opted out of the insurance during the booking, planning to get coverage from the rental company if needed, as I have full coverage through my personal insurance and my credit card covers damages up to $50K. I was looking to rent a specific model, so I felt secure about potential damages.
After making my online payment, I discovered that my assigned rental company was located offsite, about 2-3 miles from the airport, despite my request to pick up at the airport. Before heading there, I called to confirm my reservation and was assured everything was fine. I arrived 15 minutes early and was the only customer, but I was met with a negative attitude from the staff. When I presented my confirmation number, I was told I needed to provide a credit card for a $500 hold. This was unusual; I’ve never faced such a high hold before. I complied and showed my ID and credit card. When I asked about the policy for out-of-state drivers, I learned the hold would drop to $250 for them, which raised more questions. The agent then asked about insurance. I explained that I didn’t want their insurance since I have comprehensive coverage through another provider. To my surprise, the agent said they wouldn’t accept my insurance and I had to buy one of theirs to rent the car. I was taken aback and asked for clarification, but none was given. Additionally, I was told I had to purchase a toll pass from them, even though I already had my own. Their prices were outrageous: $60 per day for unlimited tolls or $25 per toll. I firmly declined, insisting I didn’t need their pass, but the agent insisted I had no choice. Moreover, I was shocked to learn I was limited to 100 miles per day—a restriction I’ve never encountered with any rental car before.
In the end, I chose to cancel my reservation entirely. I retrieved my credit card and ID and made it clear I would not proceed. I left about 30 minutes after my scheduled pickup and immediately called the booking platform. I was informed that the rental company would not issue any refund based on my reservation type, which was completely unacceptable! They essentially tell customers that anyone facing these unreasonable fees loses their payment made through various booking platforms.
As I left, I noticed other frustrated customers arriving with the same complaints. This company is a scam, and I hope the appropriate authorities take action. Their practices are nothing short of theft.

Haha...

Haha.... I going to Google Reviews for NU car rentals company and they have a rating of "1.7". What a joke. I'm not the type to leave reviews. However, I had to leave this review because it's absolutely ridiculous. They use a third party economy bookings to get clients, and I was one of them. So, i went online and booked a car rental and they took my money.Give me a confirmation number. And then when I got there, they denied me because I didn't have a credit card that was valid. They told me they couldn't help me and to call another number. Then, that number told me to call economy bookings. So I did that, and I couldn't get a hold of anyone, so today the next day, I called them economy bookings, and couldn't get a hold of them.So I called back in you rental cars, and the lady was a complete b**** on the phone. Horrible customer service, horrible company, nice office. But a complete joke. We'll see what happens to them in the future. It's not looking bright. With that type of customer service, I don't know how they have any customers at all.
