Review Time
If it were possible to give a negative rating, I would. I previously volunteered during a difficult time in my life and sought their help but received none. The environment was toxic, with staff stealing and bullying. Their treatment of me is something I cannot forget or forgive. The organization is poorly managed and unkind, and I will not seek their assistance again. It's shameful how they operate.
I’m surprised by the number of negative reviews about this long-standing organization that many of us have known for years. I have been involved with this quasi-military group for a significant portion of my life. While I appreciate the historical good it aimed to achieve, I also recognize the criticisms regarding its approach today. The founder established it to help those in dire need, but I notice a disconnect with that mission in some current practices. Despite my mixed feelings, I still acknowledge the positive aspects alongside the negatives.
As a charity that aims to help people through fundraising, I commend their efforts. However, I recently received multiple identical envelopes for their Christmas Appeal at my address, which seems wasteful. It would be better if they could address this with their courier service to ensure more households receive their promotional material.
If I could rate them negatively, I would. I once volunteered for this organization during a tough time in 2009, having lost close family members, my home, and my relationship. I sought help for income and housing but received none. The work environment was terrible; actual staff members were stealing from the registers. I endured weeks of bullying from an older employee who yelled at me until I left. Management fostered a toxic atmosphere, and I have never returned or donated since. Their treatment of me is something I cannot forget or forgive. The organization is poorly managed, the staff unkind, and the shop itself unkempt. They failed to assist me when I needed it most, and I will not seek their help again. It's disgraceful how they operate.
I had a terrible experience at the local shop. One staff member was extremely rude and treated me as if she was superior, displaying nasty behavior. At 69 and with a disability, I found her attitude very disrespectful. This is not the first time I've encountered this from her, and it's disheartening. Many customers have voiced similar concerns. I won’t be returning.
I had an interview for a temporary position and was taken aback by the hostility from the interviewers. Their remarks were dismissive and left me feeling distressed and humiliated. It was a deeply uncomfortable experience, and I left feeling degraded. This environment is not welcoming at all.
My friend recently faced a distressing situation after losing her husband to cancer. She was fined £300 for placing his clothes near a dumpster due to a lack of space at the donation center. This punitive response is shameful. What would a compassionate leader have done?
I had a frustrating encounter while trying to return an item according to the store’s policy. After following their instructions and bringing the receipt, the staff still refused the return due to an issue with the tag. They argued instead of assisting, which was unprofessional. I expected better service and respect for my time, and I won’t be shopping here again.
I've been a regular at the donation center for a couple of years and noticed a significant decline in quality and a rise in prices recently. The atmosphere has changed, and they are now selling items online, which affects the in-store experience. I appreciate the efforts of the staff and volunteers, but the direction the store is heading is disappointing. I may have to seek other charity shops for my needs.
I usually receive good service, but recently, a staff member brought up political views that made me uncomfortable. Despite my attempts to change the subject, he continued, leading to an awkward situation. This is not the kind of professional interaction I expect.
