ScreenPal has basically retained all the features of the former ScreenCast-O-Matic, thankfully. The only minor improvement I'd like to see is a full color rendition of the thumbnails shown in the opening page the way SOM has. The ScreenPal thumbnails are washed out making it hard to see exactly what the topic is. I would upload each photo to illustrate but don't see how to add them here.
My macbook has been draining its battery insanely quickly despite batteryhealth being 99% for a long while and today i finally found the culprit. Screenpal is a malicious program that utilizes 100% of your cpu and runs in the background. It doesnt even show up in force quit you have to go to activity monitor to shut it down and move to bin. It said it had been running for over 67 hours
I cant stand this new design. I miss the old one. this app will make your content public when you don't want it to be. it is nearly impossible to navigate the menu and options. it is nearly impossible to download your content anymore and it wants to store and share you videos.
Terrible experience. I downloaded the free version to try it out and it turned out that to capture computer audio, you need to upgrade to the paid version - even without the option to verify that this will work. I paid for a 1 month's subscription and then tried to do a recording with computer audio - it asked me to install something to work on Apple Silicon(Macbook M3). Then after a lot of fiddling and managing to set the computer audio, when I started a capture and played sound, the capture froze saying "The Microphone stopped working" and it did not capture anything. Avoid at all means on Apple devices and in general.
Screenpal works flawlessly and the subscription price is affordable. The team is constantly adding functionality WITHOUT raising the price. The new AI closed captioning is almost perfect, misspelled only my name (which admittedly has multiple spellings).
