This was the first painting course I’ve attended (it was actually the first time I’ve painted in the same room as anyone else!) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As there was so much content to cover over the two days, James was very clear, efficient, professional and passionate about what he was teaching us. The demonstrations he gave were excellent, and the individual guidance given once we were carrying out the tasks was spot on. The venue (Bad Moon Cafe) was great. I loved the energy in there. If you do this course, please, please take notes as it covers a lot over the two days and there’s so many useful tips and recipes to try and remember. I was over the moon with the results on the models I painted in such a short period, and really feel it will improve my painting going forward. I’ve already signed up to the next course! Having painted to a rather average level for a rather long time, this course has helped me push myself further than I ever have managed. It is not always the case that those with the talent to do something also have the ability to teach in a way that reaches their students. Fortunately James from Siege Studios is not only an incredibly talented artist, but an efficient and engaging teacher (with many great turns of phrase) able to break down complex ideas into manageable and learnable steps.Whilst it is possible to learn using online tutorials or videos, the in-person tuition helped me to grasp concepts I have previously struggled with (my before and after of a power sword looks like two different people painted it).Beyond the actual painting, the course is a great way to meet like-minded hobbyists (there are far more gaming groups than painting groups), and the Bad Moon Cafe is a fantastic and atmospheric venue.Overall, I could not rate this course more highly, and as testament to how good it is I booked the second course during a break on the 2nd day.If you are serious about furthering your painting ability, breaking through plateaus and testing your limits then I thoroughly reccomend this course.
