I instructed SLS Solicitors in April 2024 after a phone consultation in which I was explicitly sold the promise that they would handle every aspect of my case, including the asbestos exposure of myself and a three-year-old child, the medical and psychological impact, and the human consequences of what Lewisham Council and their contractors had done to us.
That promise was false.
The asbestos exposure — the sole reason I signed their agreement — was gradually minimised, sidelined, and ultimately abandoned. After nearly two years, SLS attempted to reduce my case to a narrow “bricks and mortar” disrepair claim while ignoring the most serious and dangerous aspects entirely. I am a disabled stroke survivor. A three-year-old child was exposed to asbestos. My home was left uninhabitable for over 24 months — no usable kitchen, no shower, no proper bathroom — while contamination remained unresolved.
Yet SLS treated this as trivial. Most shocking was that SLS’s own barrister, meant to defend us, dismissed two years of trauma, disability impact, asbestos exposure, and the destruction of our home as a “minor inconvenience.” That phrase was used seriously. It was medically illiterate, legally indefensible, and profoundly dehumanising. SLS did nothing to challenge it.
My treatment by Emily, the solicitor handling my case, was equally disturbing. Whenever I raised the asbestos exposure, my disability, or the medical impact, she talked over me, shut me down, dictated when I could speak, and treated me condescendingly — like a five-year-old child. This was persistent behaviour. As a stroke survivor, I require clear and respectful communication. Emily’s conduct was rude, dismissive, and a breach of the SRA Code of Conduct regarding integrity and duty of care toward a disabled client.
She also ignored explicit instructions not to communicate with the Council until my medical assessment was complete, instead engaging in unauthorised parallel discussions, then attempting to scold me using a supposed “No Access” narrative that does not exist in the Council’s own Stage 1 or Stage 2 responses. When challenged, Emily could not produce a single date or instance of denied access — because I facilitated entry for over 50 council officers and contractors over 24 months. By parroting a fabricated defence, she abandoned her role as my advocate.
I was later forwarded an email repeating a vague allegation that I had “denied access”: no dates, no times, no names, no incidents. When I phoned Emily to address this, I was spoken over, dismissed, and treated in a degrading, condescending manner. At that point, I concluded I could no longer work with SLS and sent a clear email terminating their instruction.
Despite this, I received an email stating that “management have closed your case.” This is false. SLS did not close my case; SLS were dismissed. Recasting a dismissal as firm-initiated “case closure” is misleading and unacceptable. By refusing to handle the asbestos exposure while continuing limited disrepair matters, SLS split a single coherent case into fragments, forced me to manage asbestos exposure alone, weakened my position, and signalled to the Council that they would not confront the most serious safety issue.
After dismissing SLS and taking control myself, the contrast was immediate. Within two days, I secured Health and Safety Executive involvement, now conducting a live investigation into Lewisham Council and Mullaley for leaving a disabled adult and a child in a home contaminated with a Grade 1 carcinogen. Within weeks, I escalated the Council complaint through Stage One and Stage Two, obtained medical impact evidence, and placed my home on the verge of being declared unsafe for human habitation, with rehousing now in motion.
It is extraordinary that a disabled stroke survivor, without solicitors, achieved in days what SLS Solicitors failed to achieve in two years. At no point did anyone at SLS ask how I was coping or how the child was affected. Her existence was effectively ignored. If you are vulnerable or disabled and need a solicitor to actually protect your health and dignity — do not trust this firm. They wasted two years of my life, abandoned the most serious elements of my case, and treated me with contempt when I tried to speak.

Gone absolutely and beyond, after battling a long case for over a year. My Solicitor has been doing everything in her power to fight my case, I would always recommend SLS Solicitors, As this is the second time I've called for the assistance of SLS Solicitors. My Case has been going on since January 2025
From the moment Emily took over our claim, she has been incredible. She has been so supportive and understanding of what we are going through, consistently communicating with us with updates and has fought to get our home how it should be. I would highly recommend Emily, nothing was too much effort. Very professional but also very kind and caring towards our situation! Thank you so much Emily!
I'm a landlord dealing with a tenant that stopped paying rent. My case was handled initially by Mr Shah Ali and later by Ms Megan Gore. Both were very professional and supportive. They guided me through the process and options available, resulting in a positive outcome. I've very pleased with the service provided by SLS Solicitors and would certainly use them again in the future.
What a absolutely pathetic excuse of a firm of solicitors!! My honest opinion is that the solicitors are not qualified they are ignorant and their complaints system is NONEXISTENT!!! From the so called management to the trainee solicitors. MY ADVICE WOULD BE TO STAY WELL CLEAR OF THESE SO CALLED SOLICITORS!!!
I highly recommend them. After years of being ignored by house agency and not getting my house fixed, I decided to seek help from SLS Solicitors Limited. Thanks to them, and specifically Emily Jordan, who completed the case on excellent terms that I would never have been able to achieve on my own. Thank you so much.
