Smarterbox Ltd is a business that preys on the elderly and vulnerable. My mother, 82, who does not understand anything technological and who lost her husband of 59 years a month ago, was sold a technical support product for £179.99 and an ongoing subscription. She can barely use a phone. A quick search on google will tell you all you need to know about the despicable tactics this company uses to target elderly and vulnerable people. The company is Smarterbox Ltd and they also trade as Warmbox and Your Go To Services. They ignore the fact that they are calling people signed up to the Telephone Preference Service, and they don’t clearly state that “subscribers” have a right to a cooling off period - required by law for distance selling.
Ive just discovered a £12.99 direct debit set up in my mother bank account, SHE'S 96,shame on them, she has no idea what it's about, especially as she has no tech to protect, how the hell do they set up DD without customers knowledge, I no for a fact my mother doesn't even know her account details, this is a disgrace and a very common thing judging by all the negative reviews I've just read...
I received a welcome letter from a company stating my plan is active. The problem is, I never signed up for any plan or agreed to monthly payments. When I contacted their support team, they responded quickly but claimed I agreed to this in December, which is untrue.
As someone working at a bank, I've frequently noticed this company setting up direct debits for large amounts, like £200-300. However, their website only mentions a £12.99 monthly subscription. Many elderly customers appear unaware they've signed up or even recognize the company. Proceed with caution.
I received a letter this morning from a company welcoming me and stating that my plan is active. The problem is, I never signed up for any plan or agreed to monthly payments. I called them and got a quick response, but they claimed I agreed to this back in December, which I did not.
Avoid this company. Despite numerous attempts to cancel the agreement after my father's passing, they continued to withdraw funds from his account. Interestingly, they changed their name from Warmbox Ltd to another name and have illegally taken money from his account again nearly a year later. Their legitimacy is questionable, and they should be reported and shut down. Scammers targeting the vulnerable.
They claimed I was already a customer and offered me a discount. I recalled a previous cold call offering appliance cover, which I successfully canceled. I received two calls within 5 minutes claiming to provide a discount, but I verified my bank statement and confirmed I am not a customer.
Similar to other negative reviews, my 90+ year old father was pressured into buying two products through a sales call. He lacks the ability to comprehend or need for such gadgets. Payments were taken without his consent. The customer service has been unhelpful, and I'm currently seeking a full refund while acting as his power of attorney. It's disturbing how such companies target the vulnerable.
