Review Time
it was my first time to vacation "with a purpose" in Barcelona. it’s a great mix of scheduled group activities and free time that we were able to fill to our liking. I was able to do it with my daughter. What a unforgettable experience and fantastic memories!
Most people here have already described everything in detail, simply brilliant. The trip was perfectly organized, everything was tip top, many thanks to the team at Seba, top crew without a flaw. Even my special requests were implemented perfectly. I learned to love Colombia, especially the super friendly people were impressive. But best of all, the tip of the iceberg were my teachers Salome and Alejandro, absolutely brilliant. I have taken both of them very deep to my heart. The biggest motivation to go to Medellin again would be to dance with Salome and Alejandro. I hope that it doesn't just remain a wish. Maybe next time I'd like to stay for 2 weeks - Medellin and Somolico have a lot to offer. See you soon.
I have been dancing for a number of years but always at an intermediate level. This program was intensive but not overwhelming, with private lessons but in a group setting, making it a fun, social experience. The entirety of the program was scheduled in such a way where you had a great blend of group activities and time to explore, either solo or with new friends. Met some amazing people and most importantly, improved my salsa skills! I would 100% do it again.
I am a total salsa beginner but have loved the sound of the music and the look of people twirling around the floor seamlessly together for a while. I tried taking one-off classes back home but it was too hard to get the hang of it in a group that was often more advanced than me, and just for an hour every now and then without capitalizing on my gains while they were fresh.I was searching for an immersive experience in a beautiful place that I wanted to travel to otherwise, and am so glad I landed on Somoloco! Almost everyone in the group came alone or with friends, and we got along so well that we ended up spending most of our free time together as well! The instructors were all really friendly, lovely people, so going out to dance with them or getting to know them during activities like a music lesson or a group dinner was a highlight as well. While the group was mixed in experience, the lessons are private and tailored to your own experience; between Luisa encouraging me to find my "sabroso" and teaching me some personal "shine" and basic skills to come back to whenever confused, and Sebas teaching me how to follow more naturally without trying to guess what's next or count my steps, I shocked myself that within 4 days, I could actually just move around the floor with my leader and feed off their energy. Did I make a ton of mistakes and sometimes forget if I was on 1 or 2? Yes. Did I sometimes turn the wrong way, totally miss that I was expected to turn, or take such a giant step backwards that it looked like I was afraid of my partner? Yes. But I did not go to one week of dance immersion to emerge a perfect dancer out of the dust. I went to learn some new skills, have silly fun, build confidence to keep learning, and go out with a stellar group for late night dancing in an absolute beauty of a city and come home together safely while laughing at myself for all the faces I made when I did something well! I am super excited to continue dancing back home and have already bought tickets to a salsa party where I will (much more) confidently accept the invitation to dance with strangers. That's success!
Magical. I did a one week immersion and within my first hour of practice I wished I had signed up for two. There’s nothing like private lessons. Each person gets two, for an hour and a half per day. One helps with leading, and the other helps with how you move on your own. Cris and Gaby were exceptional instructors, who saw exactly what I needed to improve on and helped me work on it in a way that stuck. They were also patient and warm, which helped when I felt I was hitting my limits during practice. The instructors come out social dancing with you too, which really helped with getting me comfortable on the dance floor. They’re said to be some of the best dancers in Medellin, and after watching them move, I believe it. Accommodations were great. The hotel is a five minute walk from the studio, an atm, and a ten minute walk from quite the shopping mall. Interesting areas of Medellin are no further than 20 minutes away by Uber or mototaxi if that’s your thing. I had great classmates, the group bonded over the course of the week and it felt like a small community by the end. All in all, would do it again, wish I stayed longer and definitely will next time around.
Great experience ! I stayed 3 weeks in Medellín and Somoloco. When I arrived I couldn't dance at all (great challenge ahah), and when leaving I was able to dance in any social, with anyone, very happy with the result. The teachers were great (Catalina and Christian), with a great teacher approach, caring and nice. Having the opportunity to go to social with the taxi dancer is a great approach as it helps you to get know the local surroundings very quickly and practice what you learned. Great organization from A to Z.
This trip to Medellín has probably been one of my favorite trips so far, and Somoloco was the main reason for it. They are welcoming and patient teachers and very knowledgeable about all things salsa. I came in knowing nothing, and they were able to teach me all the components of salsa, from the movements to the history. Would recommend this experience not only for the salsa part, but also for the immersion into Colombian culture. Can’t wait to repeat the experience!
I recently had the pleasure of taking a 1-week salsa immersion class in Medellin. Not only was the quality of the salsa classes top-notch, but the overall experience offered by Alejandra and her team at Somolocos was nothing short of exceptional.Upon selecting Somolocos, I was a bit apprehensive that i would end up in either a beginner's, or an expert's class. However, going with the option of having private teachers was undoubtedly the best decision you can make. They assess your current skill level and begin to build on it, regardless of your level or style. Sebastian and Louisa, my instructors, were truly outstanding. They were patient, motivating, and you can feel the passion they have for salsa making the learning process an absolute joy.For me, what sets this experience apart is that it went beyond just dance lessons. Outside of our private classes, Sebastian and the other instructors took us on a journey to explore the vibrant salsa scene in Medellin. Nights out in local salsa bars allowed us to witness the city's rich culture and experience different salsa styles firsthand. But the immersion didn't stop there; they also arranged dinners with local families, put us live "on-air" on one of the primary salsa radio stations, and included dinners on the town with locals making you feel at home in Medellin. The improvement in my salsa skills over the course of just one week was remarkable, and if I were to rate solely based on that, it would easily be a 5-star review. However, what truly made this trip unforgettable was the complete immersion into Medellin's culture, energy, and the friendliness of its people. The experience felt authentic and genuine, making me fall in love with the city and its vibrant atmosphere.I can't thank Alejandra and the entire team at Somolocos enough for curating such a unique and unforgettable experience. I will cherish the memories and skills gained during this trip, and I am already looking forward to returning to Medellin for another round of salsa, culture, and unforgettable moments. If you're looking for an outstanding salsa experience that goes beyond dance lessons and truly immerses you in the heart of Medellin, I wholeheartedly recommend the team at Somolocos. Its a small investment to have a lot of fun, dance a lot, and enjoy this magical time and culture of Medellin.
