We have been owners of the Tonal since 2019 and this is an incredible machine. We have lifted between my wife and I well over 9,000,000 pounds if I am not mistaken. The service from Tonal has been exceptional and we've referred so many of our friends who have gotten Tonal's as well.
Tonal costs well over $5,000.00 after accessories and maintenance contract, and is supposed to be high-tech. I am disappointed so far. I find it lacking in some important areas. It does not have any way for it to remember the last weight I used for any exercise. It’s never correct. I have to look at a spreadsheet which is ridiculous. I want to set each set with what weight it should be. I also want to be able to modify it as I get stronger. It should remember the last weight I did for each set. This is a very basic feature it should have. The machine will suggest weights based on your strength, but it isn't close to what I should be lifting. I am 74 years old and that feature is maybe good for a young person. After 50 years old it is not healthy to have the machine tell you what weight you should lift. You could easily injure yourself. Some other lacking features are: No exercises like incline press. There should be a way to change the weight remotely, so you don’t have to get up off the floor (seated row) to change the weight, in-between sets, then back on the floor four times for an exercise. It's hard enough just getting on the floor once much less up & down 3 times. This is hard for older people. You cannot skip to the next exercise or stay on the same exercise if you feel you want to do another set. It automatically switches to the next exercise. It should ask you if you want to go to the next exercise. You can't do an additional set before it switches to the next exercise?
Hero's discount? Not really. Tonal is offering all their customers a "Free" accessories kit, valued at $495. They also offer a $500 Military/Veteran/First Responder discount.They will not allow "stacking" of the two discounts, however.So, a $495 discount for everyone, and an additional $5 off if you're Military or first responder.I really appreciate the genuine thanks I get when people learn I'm a veteran, but I'm not seeing $5 as a very meaningful discount from this company.They should change the info on their website to make it clear that their "Hero Discount" is really only $5 more than the discount they're giving everyone else.
DO NOT BUY THIS!!Decided to cancel the subscription because it was too expensive for what the videos provide which is poor quality workouts btw. Was just going to use the basic movements that they originally said I could do without a subscription and when I tried to use it, a screen would always pop up saying renew your subscription just on the basic functions of the machine. Called to try and get the problem fixed and the person from Tonal told me I have to complete a full 12 month subscription first before I get to use that function. Complete scam! First they over charge you for a mid tier machine worth half that then make you buy a subscription for an entire year to even be able to use basic functions. The guy on the phone from Tonal even told me I signed a contract. I never signed a formal contract. All I did was buy it just like everybody else. Please stay away from this product! It is not worth it!
I purchased a relocation package with Tonal. They were supposed to send someone to uninstall my device the day before my move. The night before, they cancelled on me at 8:30pm. Now my Tonal will be remaining at my old house, and my entire investment is gone. Would never purchase again unless you are sure you will never need to move it.Update: we purchased the relocation package a month ahead of time so that we could avoid any scheduling issues. We were still cancelled on last minute. We also called the customer service line. They were unable to assist. Update: while the uninstall has been rescheduled, it is scheduled for after the sale of my house closes. Which means I will need to get permission from the new owner to have my Tonal uninstalled. Whether or not I'll be able to do this is currently unknown. Either way, this is not what I should have to be doing to move my Tonal. Especially when I purchased my relocation package and scheduled my appointment a month ahead of time.Update: After getting permission to re-enter my old house to have my Tonal uninstalled, the appointment, once again, did not happen. This time, I wasn't even notified the day before, instead, I had to call the morning of to then be told that nobody was coming. After spending an entire morning on the phone, I then learned that there isn't even somebody in my area who is certified to uninstall the Tonal, so nobody was ever going to come out to do that work.My Tonal is officially gone, and lost in my move.Update: Tonal is replacing the device I lost in the move. While it was a bumpy road, I appreciate all you have done to makes things right. I have updated the review accordingly. Thank again.
Tonal has completely changed my life! Almost 40, and with the help of Tonal (Coach Joe) I’m in the best shape of my life. The convenience of having a fully immersive, challenging, and INTENSE “gym” right in my own home is so underrated. Plus, the coaches are almost like having personal trainers with you through your workout! I love the Smart View feature that enables me actively view my form and technique during lifts. Overall, can’t explain how overly satisfied I am with Tonal!
I can honestly say Tonal has been a game changer for me. I’ve tried different ways to stay consistent with workouts in the past, but nothing has been this easy or accessible. I love that I can literally open the app or just walk over to it, pick a program or a quick workout, and get started without overthinking it.The coaches are fantastic! They explain everything clearly and give you tips that actually make a difference, so I feel like I’m learning while I’m training. They keep it motivating too which makes it feel less intimidating and more like having a personal trainer guiding me at my own pace.What makes it stand out is the flexibility. Whether I want a 15-minute workout to get my body moving or a full strength session, it’s all there, and I can do it on my schedule. No waiting for equipment, no worrying about fitting in a gym trip. It’s made working out something I look forward to instead of something I “have to do.”If you’ve been on the fence, I’d definitely recommend Tonal. It makes fitness at home simple, effective, and actually enjoyable. Make an investment in yourself because it's worth it!
Pros: It's a great machine with a lot of variety. I have enjoyed all the different workouts that are offered and the coaches are great. The monthly membership is cheaper than my local gyms and I can workout whenever I want without leaving home. Cons: If the machine breaks outside of warranty, be prepared to pay...a lot. The arm stopped responding to one of the buttons 14 months after getting the machine and tonal quoted me $400 to fix it. I was able to find a work around and avoid paying but not sure if others have the same luck. Also, needing to have internet to use the machine is not ideal.Overall, I do love my tonal. It was a great investment and I do not regret getting it. Yes, there are hiccups that are not ideal but the pros definitely outweigh the cons.
Love Tonal! Love the machine, the coaches and their styles. I’ve learned more about strength training in the past 4 years compared to my over 20yr history of working out. The machine is solid and has handled a lot of pounds lifted (over 8k). Warranty has been great and so has the service when it was needed. The company is constantly innovating and keeping their clientele wanting more! The monthly subscription fee is worth it…. While some complain, I believe it’s a monthly investment in myself and my health! Thank you Tonal!
I have had my Tonal for 3 years and have nothing negative to say. The company actually listens to the users and does things to keep us coming back to training that will help us be mobile for years to come. Keep providing excellent training to us team!
