Review Time
My account has been blocked and no one from the Spike Team is getting back to me to rectify the situation. It has been over a month that I have not been able to use my account which I still have 1 year membership already paid for. This is unacceptable.
Previously (sometime at the end of last year) I had another incident where I got kicked out of my account and had to pay again to get reactivated. This took so much time out of my schedule to communicate with the Spike Team about the situation until eventually it got sorted out. It is extremely frustrating not being able to access your emails in one place.

Really difficult to know where to begin, really. So many things over years: - First off, broadly speaking, it's painfully obvious that they chase money rather than user experience. They refuse to understand that they're just an email client and that the vast majority of their user base just want to simply access to their email through them. Instead, they continue to push their "team" pricing, AI slop, and features that nobody wants, and use it to justify their elevated pricing. They know people just want an email app, thank you very much… they just know that they make less money that way. - In keeping with the theme of chasing money over user experience, they constantly spam you with user surveys, even as a paying customer. I have been asking for years to not receive these. Support told me "I will take a look to see how to remove you from the review mailers." and then proceeded to send the exact same review survey a few months later. - Search is broken, and I mean absolutely broken. As an example, you can only search for whole words; if you have a partial match, it will pretend that doesn't exist. For instance, let's say I had an email conversation a year ago when I was looking to hire someone to pet-sit my dogs when I was in Monaco. I remember the discussion mentioned that I was going there. I try to find that conversation by searching "dog Monaco" and find… zilch. Why? Because it turns out that we only used the word "dogs" in the plural, and Spike have been too lazy or to incompetent to bring their search in line with how all their competitors (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) algorithmically search. Again, I brought this up to them years ago. No fix in sight, and I'm sure it will never come. - Instead of taking an approach of "we will enable power users to power use, whilst making the app simple for those who want it that way," Spike choose to baby users by not allowing truly basic, fundamental features of emailing in the name of making themselves "not like all the other girls," so to speak. As an example, on mobile, there is literally zero way whatsoever to change anything about your email text appearance. You want to change the font in headers? You want to bold text for emphasis? You want to underline text for clarity? To want to highlight text for quick reference? Good luck. There's not even a way on desktop to do all of those things. You could choose to go into a different, functional email program, get the text exactly how you want it, and then copy and paste it into the Spike message… but then, what's the point of using Spike? I thought it was meant to make my life easier, not more complicated. - My company has a strict policy regarding email signatures. They are standardised and it is important to our management that this standard is followed. A couple months ago, I got an email from our CFO asking why I had changed my signature and advising me of the policy breach. (For context, unlike all other email apps, there is absolutely no way to preview your signature in Spike before sending a message, unless you leave the email and go into Settings --> Account --> Signature each time you want to send an email.) I was shocked and had no idea what he was talking about. I scrolled down the message history and was horrified to see — Spike had changed my signature! Every contact for the past weeks had been receiving a different signature to the one I had set. No notification, no way to change it back to conform to company standards. I emailed their support team immediately and they confirmed they decided to make the changes and not notify customers. Spike quite clearly see your inbox as their property, to make changes to if they see fit, when they see fit, and how they see fit. Notifications to you of changes very optional. Please, please stay far away from this company. There is literally nobody, not a single use case, that Spike is the best option for. Look into Missive, look into Superhuman, look into Mailspring, look into Spark, look into Newton Mail, Unibox. Spike is far from unique except in "texting-like email" – the only different thing ishow poor the experience is. There are so many better, cheaper, less sketchy options that do more or less the same thing, who provide actual customer service. Save yourself the headache of Spike. It's just not even remotely worth it. Note: I've had to shorten my review and leave out many of the worst parts of Spike due to Trustpilot's character limit. The above is really only about half of the issues. Run away!
I simply love how Spike handles emails. It's an awesome piece of software which does so much without imitating other traditional email apps.Features such as knowing when email was read, AI email summary, cross-platform compatibility, simple UI, and affordable.
