Outstanding Service from the Manager

The manager at the local shop is truly one of the kindest individuals I have encountered. Always cheerful and eager to assist customers with their shopping experience, she has integrated the shop into the community. Her dedication and hard work are evident in the store's atmosphere. She deserves recognition for her commitment to her role and serves as an excellent representative for the charity. It is the diligent and compassionate staff that ensure such important causes remain accessible to those in need.

Frustrating Experience

I booked a sofa collection, thinking it might be suitable for a charity shop. After confirming the collection, they arrived on Monday only to say it was too old. They never even asked about its age! I wasted time holding onto it when I could have given it to someone else. It feels greedy to assume people have unlimited time and resources. I won't be donating like this again, especially not here. The sofa is in good condition, so maybe they should inquire about the age of furniture.

Wonderful Staff

The staff were fantastic. They allowed us extra time to finalize our purchase of two sheepskin coats, even though the shop was closing. I look forward to visiting again.

Disappointing Experience, Uncaring Staff

I brought two boxes of new books to donate, believing in the charity's mission. However, after sorting and driving to the location, the staff told me they couldn't accept them today. They were simply chatting while I was there with my sorted donations. I felt my time and effort were completely wasted. I will find a charity that truly values donations.

Unprofessional Behavior from Management

I was very disappointed with my recent visit to the store. I witnessed the manager speaking to a young person in an inappropriate way, telling him to 'Go Home' in an aggressive tone. As a customer, it's alarming to see such behavior. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves staff training in customer service and communication.

Disappointing Customer Service Encounter

I was very dissatisfied with my visit, especially regarding the service from the store manager. His dismissive attitude left me feeling unheard and frustrated. I expected better professionalism. Due to this experience, I won't be returning or recommending the charity to others.

Unpleasant Donation Experience

I purchased a solid wood bookcase and also had furniture to donate. Despite my donations, I was charged a high delivery fee for a nearby location. When the collection team arrived, they rejected my furniture due to concerns over its paint, despite it being lead-free. I ended up giving it away on social media. The delivery pricing should be based on mileage, not a flat radius, and staff should be better informed about acceptable donations.

Quality Issues with Purchased Books

I bought a book only to find that many pages were ripped out and others marked on. I expected a well-known charity to check the quality of their items, but I was clearly mistaken.

Business Details

  • We are here to make sure that everyone approaching the end-of-life or living with grief can access the support they need. For more than 70 years, we have been a source of strength and support for anyone living with a life-limiting illness or grief.

Sue Ryder supports people through our hospices, palliative care hubs and via our online bereavement support services. We also have almost 400 charity shops across the UK, helping to raise vital funds so no one has to face death or grief alone.

Dying and grief are universal experiences, but too many people face them alone. We are a safe and reassuring hand you can reach for. From providing care and support for someone at the end of their life to helping someone manage their grief, we know there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need.

Sue Ryder campaigns for everyone who is approaching the end of their life or grieving to have access to the right support, at the right time. And we seek to break down the barriers to talking about dying and grief - so we can all be better prepared and better equipped to be there for each other.

We can make a positive difference during even the darkest of times. Whether in the last months, weeks or days of life, or living with grief, we help people live the best life they possibly can. We are there when it matters.See more
