Review Time
My mother passed away January 28th 2026. She had made beneficiary changes on both policies she owned. One was made in August 2025 and the other was made in December 2025. I told them to call her if they had any questions. One policy is for $50k and was issued in 2000. The other $20k issued 2018. I called the claim in on 29Jan26. Not once has the claims department called any of us to advise what they needed. We had to follow up and each time needed to provide additional info...death certificate, (even though it was considered express pay and they had the funeral home info), then questioning the beneficiary change...Who was in the room with her when it was changed, what was discussed, then needed dates of birth of beneficiaries. Void cheques have been provided. We keep getting told its approved but STILL NO FUNDS! I HIGHLY recommend NOT purchasing life insurance from Sunlife! They are non responsive and this is beyond frustrating!
Absolutely zero stars! If negative ratings were possible, I would choose that. I had a disastrous experience with customer service, spending more than three hours on the phone, and it was a nightmare to deal with. To sum it up, I will be switching my policy to a different provider. My advice: If you're thinking about them for investments, look elsewhere. You're welcome!

This has been the worst experience! My employer's pension and benefits are tied to this provider, leaving me with no choice. I've been unable to submit benefit claims for over a month and reaching someone for help has proven impossible. The live chat and phone lines are always too busy. They've made it exceedingly difficult to claim benefits, and I've been trying to submit invoices for nearly two years. I dread what will happen when the submission period expires.

This is the absolute worst insurance provider I've encountered! They ask for documents without an upload option, assign security indicators randomly, and their AI chat provides no real help. It's nearly impossible to reach a live representative due to long wait times. The entire claims process is unnecessarily complicated.
