Review Time
The booking system is simply not up to the job. They open for bookings at 9am on the first of the month. It's impossible to get on the site initially as it is overwhelmed. When you do, it accepts a time but then says 'time slot no longer available'. I went through that process a hundred times, when suddenly I got into the booking process!
I gave credit card details etc, and it said confirming your booking, then 'oops something went wrong'.
Now I don't know whether I have a booking or not. Probably not.
The fact is , the farmer's dog is brilliant if you can get a booking. Clearly somebody does-thousands of them, but they maybe they are Tech Nerds who can beat the system!
P.S. I was subsequently able to book, but I think my comments on the booking system stand. The Farmer's Dog is, of course an excellent pub.

What a lovely pub, in fact it's stunning. The food was amazing, I had the chefs special starter, pork fritters with apple sauce which was a great combination, mv wife iust had bread and butter.. For mains I had Slow Roasted Saddle of Lamb, Faggot, Mash, Roasted Vegetables, Seasonal Greens, Hawkstone Gravy & Mint Sauce, this was amazing, the only downside was there wasn't enough veg in my opinion The Wife had the Steak Pie, Mash, Seasonal Vegetables & Hawkstone Gravy, it was packed full, nice shortcrust pastry and tender Steak, exceptionakDesert for me Apple & Oat Crumble Cake with cotswold cream ice cream again this was very good..Drinks, I was driving so it was Hawkstone Zero £4.50 (very nice and cheap) for me and sparkling water for both of us, 750ml bottle £3.50 very nice and the cheapest apart from the supermarket All in all we had a great time, and everyone around us seemed very happy indeed... 10/10 from us..
Can't fault the staff or the food, both are brilliant. They do probably the best meat pie I've ever seen. The big problem is that everything is just so hellishly expensive. It's a place that has to be visited at least once just to say you've been, but it isn't a place most people could afford to eat at regularly. We had three courses and a couple of drinks, which came to over £130 after the sneaky 12.5 % service charge was added, and one desert was only a small tub of ice cream. It's really more of a tourist venue unless you have very deep pockets and it was a bit disappointing that they don't accept cash.
Zero plant based options - the waitress wouldn’t even ask the kitchen to do the veggies without butter!! ! Nice venue , but having dry bread as an option is not ok. My companions meals were adequate but over priced . If you want healthy animal fat free food , swerve this place
Fantastic hostelry where four of us had a really great three course lunch and drinks Staff were really good, attentive, knowledgeable and above all friendly and welcoming The food was probably the best pub food we have hadVenue was great with lots to do and a wide range of products and produce on saleThank you for a wonderful afternoon
Having just been to the Farmers Dog for visit number 4 I can honestly say won't be returning. I live close by and have previously enjoyed it.Without compromise the staff are lovely, the service is fantastic and the establishment (minus the gents loos) are really nice. However tonight I do not feel we got value for money. £9.50 for a small bowl (of very nice) soup and £26 for Pork Belly (served on some disgusting bean things) which quite honestly was tiny is not worthwhile. When it came to desert we opted to avoid spending £12 on a slither of Apple Pie and return home. I'm afraid this place has gone from being reasonably priced to being a cash cow for gullible tourists wanting to visit their TV hero. £7 a pint is too much.Sorry not for me anymore - plenty of other places around and about the area which represent better VFM. Great concept, great delivery of service. Greed has crept in.
Other pub restaurants could learn from a visit to the Farmers Dog, we did not encounter a single negative during our visit. The staff all sing from the same song sheet, the drink selection is excellent and the kitchen delivers superb food in a timely manor. Full marks from us. As one would expect, it is a little busy, but the staff are very good at their jobs.
