Unacceptable after-sales handling and inadequate diagnostics

I purchased a 2012 Honda Civic from this dealer on 11 January. An engine management fault appeared almost immediately after purchase.

Timeline of events:
• 11 Jan – Vehicle purchased
• 14 Jan – Vehicle returned to the dealer’s approved garage
• Parts (O₂ sensors) were replaced, however no proper written diagnostic report was provided, no live data was shared, and no test results were supplied to justify the work
• 15 Jan – Vehicle returned to me, but the engine management light reappeared straight away
• 19 Jan – Vehicle returned again with the same unresolved fault

On the second visit, I requested a full diagnostic report and specifically asked for the vehicle to be taken to a Honda main dealer or Honda-approved specialist for proper diagnostic testing. This request was not actioned. Instead, I was informed that the approved garage could not provide live data or catalyst efficiency readings, and that only a basic OBD scan was available. Despite this, assumptions continued to be made about the cause of the fault, including attributing it to parts fitted during the first visit.

At no stage was I provided with:
• Live sensor data
• Catalyst efficiency testing
• A clear written diagnostic process
• Evidence justifying the replacement of parts

As a result:
• Parts were replaced without supporting diagnostic evidence being shared
• Requests for specialist or manufacturer-level diagnostics were ignored
• The fault was never properly diagnosed or resolved
• Explanations for the issue changed over time
• The vehicle was off the road repeatedly within days of purchase
• I incurred additional costs and inconvenience
• Confidence in the diagnostic competence of the approved garage was completely undermined

A partial refund was offered as an alternative, however this did not address the unresolved fault or the lack of proper diagnostics. The sale was ultimately unwound with a full refund, which I accepted.

While I acknowledge that outcome, it does not negate the poor diagnostic standards, lack of transparency, or disruption caused. This experience strongly suggests a trial-and-error approach to repairs rather than proper fault diagnosis.

I would strongly advise prospective buyers to be cautious and to insist on clear, written diagnostics and appropriate specialist involvement if any issues arise shortly after purchase.

Excellent company!

I bought an audi A3 from the Land of Cars. I highly recommend the company. Am and Tony were polite, friendly, and helpful. They went above and beyond with their customer service. They don’t pressure you and give you time to make a decision. Will definitely go back when i replace my car.

I recently bought a Hyundai i10 from the Land of Cars. I was met by Am who showed me the car. He asked me to check the car thoroughly and take it for a test drive for as long as needed. Am was extremely helpful and made the whole the process very smooth, answering all the questions and never pressurizing with a hard sell. I am very happy with my car and I recommend Am and the Land of Cars. Said (Herefordshire).

Highly recommend

I recently traded in my Peugeot and bought a Fiesta from Land of Cars. The service was excellent. Tony is a great ambassador for the business, very friendly, helpful and easy to do business with, making me feel comfortable and confident with the process. I will certainly recommend him to anyone who is looking for an affordable used car.

Exceptional Service

We recently bought a car from Land of Cars. Was so nice to be given old fashioned customer service. Friendly and approachable, helpful and polite. We purchased a little car for my sister, it was a straightforward process.

Orange Mokka X disappointment

Got a lovely Orange Mokka X from the land of cars. Tony was a lovely guy who reassured us at the time that we were getting a lovely reliable car. Around 4 weeks in we noticed it was leaking some oil, turns out it had just been over filled. Then a few days later we noticed that it was loosing coolant. We had to pay to have the car looked at as it was not safe to drive and we didn’t want to make it any worse. I then had to find alternative ways to get to work while it was being fixed. £130 later it was fixed and back to its normal self. The AA warranty is useless and covered nothing so I wouldn’t recommend it at all, also don’t get talked into paying to extend the cover as it’s useless. Overall not the worse experience ever, just disappointing to have to spend more money after spending thousands on a car.

TOP NOTCH DEALERSHIP

Great car, great service - Am is super efficient, took great care of me, (an indecisive customer) and went the extra ten miles rather than just the one proverbial mile. I am so grateful to him for putting up with me and supplying a very reasonble priced car, with extended warranty. Sam in the office is lovely as well. I don't hesitate in recommending this dealership.
