This place is nothing like it was in the late 1990s; the decline is evident. Most of the staff appears to be under 30, and aside from one genuinely skilled individual on the floor, the rest are shockingly unprofessional. They come across as sloppy and disengaged, far from the standards this venue once upheld. The front-of-house experience was particularly disappointing. The person at the entrance displayed arrogance from the moment I arrived, insisting I had never made a reservation, despite my call the night before to secure a table. He refused to provide the name of the person who took my booking, which suggests he might have mishandled it himself. Such an attitude is unacceptable for someone representing the venue. Regarding the food, it was entirely underwhelming. The menu feels like a cheaper, diluted version of what used to be offered—nothing memorable or worth a return visit. To add to my frustration, I left my earring on the table and called back just 30 minutes later, only to be told nothing had been found. Given the careless manner in which everything else was managed, it’s hard to take that response seriously. I won’t be coming back. It’s unfortunate because the setting remains lovely, but the professionalism that once characterized this venue is gone. It desperately needs a complete staff overhaul, proper training, and a return to higher standards from people who genuinely care. Sadly, it seems they cannot revive what has been lost. I will also advise others to avoid it.
This venue has drastically declined since the late 1990s. The staff, mostly under 30, lack professionalism, with only one talented individual standing out. The front-of-house experience was particularly poor; the entrance staff was arrogant and denied my booking despite my prior call to reserve a table. The food was forgettable, resembling a cheaper version of the original menu. I even left an earring behind and was told nothing was found, which felt unbelievable given the overall carelessness. I won’t be coming back, as the beautiful setting is overshadowed by a lack of professionalism. A complete staff overhaul and proper training are desperately needed to restore what has been lost.
The setting by the river is delightful, with herons and fish jumping. Perfect for a summer evening meal. The food was quite good, though the menu feels a bit dated now; a revamp could be beneficial. I wasn't informed of any specials. The service was excellent—cheerful and prompt.
As a regular visitor, I've noticed a significant drop in standards. I ordered a dish that was supposed to have crab but had none at all, just tomatoes. My partner's salad was bland with hardly any avocado. Very disappointing. I will choose a different venue next time.
