I originally did a Level 1 course 4 years ago and since then, I just picked up extra signs along the way as and when needed. I wanted to join Tasha's level 2 course to help build my library of signs but I was quite apprehensive... of the signs I know, am I doing them correctly? Do I know enough to do the Level 2? Will I be out of my depth?
I needn't have worried!!
Tasha was wonderful. She provides a non-judgmental and safe space where you feel empowered to learn Makaton skills. You know you can give it a go and she will be there to guide and help you. I have come away from the course feeling so much more confident in using Makaton and of course, I have learnt lots of new signs too! After completing Level 2, I instantly booked myself onto Levels 3 and 4 as now I feel like I can tackle it with the support provided.
Having completed Level 3 and the Level 4 left to do, I'm really excited... not for me, but for my little boy as I now feel much better placed to be able to help build his communication skills with the training I've received from Tasha. And that is what it's all about. Thank you!
I've recently completed Levels 2 and 3, and once again, the workshops were fantastic. The instructor tailors her teaching to each individual, always welcoming questions and providing clear, understandable explanations. After taking several courses, I've found a wonderful community, and I'm sad there's only one more course left because this experience has been remarkable. Nothing compares to in-person learning and sharing experiences with others, especially in Level 3 when analyzing signs from those who may not perform full signs. Overall, a fantastic series of workshops with an exceptional teacher!

After finishing Level 2, I immediately enrolled in Levels 3 and 4, feeling ready to tackle them with the provided support. Completing Level 3 and looking forward to Level 4 excites me—not just for myself, but for my child, as I now feel better equipped to enhance his communication skills. That’s what truly matters. I just completed a wonderful Level course. As someone with dyspraxia, multitasking is challenging for me, but this course offered a gentle introduction to Makaton. I now feel capable of communicating with my non-verbal students and look forward to helping them feel more at ease through effective communication. Thank you!
The instructor was fantastic! The lesson was easy to grasp, and her patience and support throughout the course were commendable. She never put anyone on the spot for mistakes; instead, she encouraged everyone to practice the signs together, easing the pressure and making everyone feel comfortable.
Initially, I thought Level 1 would suffice, but now I’m ready to enroll in Level 4, thanks to my amazing tutor. She instills confidence even when self-doubt arises and goes above and beyond to provide resources tailored to our needs. Her genuine care makes all the difference in the learning experience.
The instructor is excellent! She created a comfortable atmosphere and was very helpful throughout the course. She made learning enjoyable, and I felt at ease even making mistakes. Working with others was great, and I now feel confident in understanding basic Makaton signs, despite my initial fears. I would highly recommend this course to anyone interested in learning Makaton.

I am a Makaton tutor based in Derby. I have been using Makaton now for nearly 16 years so I was able to communicate with my son. I became a Makaton tutor in July 2025 after finding a passion of using it through music. I now endeavour to help families all over the UK communicate with their children and make professional settings more inclusive for our SEN community.
