Although the classroom-type sessions are group participation, the individual private sessions help each participant address our personal needs, as well. Jesse and the mentors are playing professionals who are fully equipped to assist and guide us. We support each other and share info and personal experiences. We are family. Anyone who wants to improve their playing will benefit immensely. 1% is the mantra. Success is the result.
My experience has been amazing. I’ve grown leaps and bounds on my trumpet playing. From range to attack, all parts of my trumpet has improved. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested.
I’ve played trumpet for many (<50) years. A 15 year gap in the ‘80s and 90s. No lessons since high school. I’ve just played in local community bands. I started with the 1% program about 2 years ago because I was frustrated with my lack of endurance.
From the very beginning I was impressed with Jesse’s attention to detail in all aspects of playing. We have worked on embouchure position, embouchure strengthening, breath support, tongue position, and posture. We’ve looked at practice techniques, length of practice, rest times, and indicators of the need to rest. He has taught me free buzzing. I learned about the CTS pressure gauge. So many of these aspects of playing were new to me. My endurance has improved and my practice routine is more goal directed.
Jesse is focused on measurable results. He understands the struggles players like me experience. He’s an excellent instructor. The program has mostly group lessons and one on one lessons.
Playing trumpet is hard, and many of us have bad habits which can be a challenge to break. He understands this fact and has techniques to break these habits.
If you’re willing to put in the time and commitment, the 1% program with Jesse is a great choice.
I joined the 1% Trumpet Program in August 2024 with the expectation that it would help me improve my range, endurance, and overall technique as a freelance trumpeter performing weekly with a variety of ensembles. Having played the trumpet for more than forty years, and after retiring from a twenty-two-year career as a middle school and high school band director, I finally had the opportunity to devote greater focus to trumpet performance and more frequent gigging. However, as my playing increased significantly between 2022 and 2024, I began to realize that performing on the trumpet was becoming physically exhausting and, at times, painful. It became clear that I needed a more efficient and sustainable approach—one that emphasized proper tools and technique while avoiding excessive mouthpiece pressure, overblowing, and playing at unnecessarily high volumes over dance band rhythm sections. Additionally, despite my many years of experience, I had not yet achieved the level of proficiency I aspired to, particularly the skills required to comfortably and consistently perform commercial lead trumpet parts in big bands and dance bands. The 1% Trumpet Program appeared to be an ideal fit for my specific goals and needs.
Several factors have contributed to making my experience exceptionally positive. The program offers an asynchronous learning environment that allows participants to progress at their own pace through a variety of modules, while also providing opportunities to schedule one-on-one sessions for individualized instruction. The coaching calls serve as an effective forum for guided practice with the instructor and fellow participants. The program clearly demonstrates what it means to practice efficiently and achieve measurable improvement in a shorter amount of time. Additionally, the instructor introduces new method books and explains multiple approaches to studying them, as well as how to integrate more traditional methods without becoming disengaged or stagnant. Participants also engage in discussions on how to evaluate and experiment with new equipment, including mouthpieces, trumpets, mutes, and CTS. Most importantly, the instructor and staff are able to closely observe my playing, identify areas in need of improvement, and provide targeted solutions to address my specific challenges as a trumpet player.
This program demonstrates a strong commitment to flexibility by effectively meeting the needs of its clients within an encouraging and supportive online community. The content presented in the modules is highly informative and is continually updated in response to client feedback, as well as the instructor’s observations regarding improvements that would benefit the group as a whole. The 1% Trumpet Program / Toot Your Own Horn has fundamentally transformed my mindset and approach to trumpet performance, and it has also had a significant impact on how I teach my own students.

I've been part of the trumpet community for two years, and it has been life-changing. This program reshaped my understanding of effective practice, enabling consistent improvements in less time than I imagined. The instructor is exceptional and genuinely cares about your development, helping pinpoint specific challenges and crafting an efficient, personalized pathway. There's no uncertainty—just clear guidance in every practice session. The community aspect is also invaluable; you're not alone in your journey. Through the platform, you connect with fellow trumpeters at various stages, sharing struggles and providing constructive feedback. As a member, you have ongoing access to a wealth of resources, recorded coaching sessions, and structured modules that build confidence and momentum. Thanks to this program, I now feel equipped to pursue my trumpet goals—1% at a time. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone serious about enhancing their skills.
About a year and four months ago, I struggled to play the trumpet. When I found the instructor, I was facing the possibility of giving up something I had done for decades. I was still active in bands, and the thought of quitting was daunting. I reached out, sharing my struggles and hopes. Many of us begin playing in school without clear guidance, and over the years, I've encountered various challenges. After a severe setback, I felt I had gone from capable to struggling. It was shocking to lose my ability to play. I tried to fix things alone, but eventually realized I needed professional help. Working together, we made significant strides. Now, almost a year later, I can play again and have a much better understanding of the instrument. What sets this program apart is the instructor's deep knowledge of trumpet mechanics and his ability to convey that effectively. The progress I've made has been significant, and I feel optimistic about my future in music. I'm re-enrolling without hesitation, confident that another year will solidify my recovery and growth.
The instructor is an exceptional teacher who goes the extra mile for participants, both personally and during coaching sessions. My playing has improved remarkably; I went from struggling with articulation and endurance to confidently performing lengthy gigs and expanding my range. I can't praise the program enough—it's worth every penny and more!
Having played trumpet for decades and studied under various excellent teachers, I sought a program that would keep me motivated and progressing. After a disappointing previous experience, I found this program and was impressed by the instructor's knowledge and commitment. He genuinely cares about everyone and is generous with his time. I highly recommend this program to anyone wanting to improve, maintain, or simply enjoy playing. You won't regret joining!

We help trumpet players break out of inconsistency and rebuild reliable sound, range, and endurance without grinding themselves into burnout.
Our coaching focuses on the underlying causes of why trumpet playing feels great one day and falls apart the next. Instead of chasing endless exercises, gear, or quick fixes, we teach players how tension, fear responses, and nervous-system habits quietly limit performance, and how to retrain those patterns so playing feels calm, confident, and musical again.
Our programs are designed for serious trumpet players, including comeback players and dedicated daily players, who feel stuck despite practicing regularly. Through structured training, live coaching, and clear diagnostic frameworks, we help players practice more intelligently, reduce physical strain, and make consistent progress they can actually feel.
Our coaching is not a shortcut or a quick-fix course. Progress requires consistent practice, honest self-observation, and a willingness to change long-held habits. We work best with players who are serious about long-term improvement and are open to understanding how both the body and mind influence trumpet performance.
