From this experience, I gained a lot of personal and professional growth. I developed patience, creativity, and communication skills while teaching children aged 3 to 12, and I learned how small efforts can make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. It was also incredibly rewarding to connect with the local community and experience their culture firsthand.
For anyone who is hesitant about joining this program, I would say: go for it! Volunteering like this is a unique opportunity to make an impact, learn new skills, and have experiences you won’t get anywhere else. Even if you’re nervous at first, the support from both the organization and the local team makes it a truly enjoyable and life-changing experience.
My experience with IVHQ was excellent. Very organized with plenty of information given in checklist form, making the planning of this trip to Laos very easy. Ideal if you are a young or first-time traveler. My only complaint is the agent they recommend for flights. I paid $200au for supposed access to special deals but the quote I got back was for $3300au. I was able to book for 1/3 of that price doing it myself. The insurance recommended was however a good deal. I'm a 57yo female from Australia and did the construction and renovation project in Luang Prabang. The town is 'safe and gorgeous and the local team brilliant, I highly recommend.
IVHQ is an amazing service!! They provided all the necessary information prior to departure and their checklist feature made it super easy to keep on top of all the documents and tasks I needed to complete. The support of the IVHQ team made me feel so much more confident going into my first solo trip and I genuinely cannot thank them enough!!

It was my first time volunteering in Asia through the IVHQ program. When I landed in Nepal, everyone was so helpful and nice.
I visited many places, but my favorite was Pokhara—the lakeside had a wonderful view. I really recommend visiting Nepal, even if you don't speak the language; most people in the cities speak English. Don't be afraid to plan your trip. The IVHQ program will help you step by step to make sure you're safe. All the team members were so nice and helpful. Make sure to choose the right program so you can enjoy yourself. I chose ChildCare for two weeks and really enjoyed it. The kids and I danced and practiced the Nepali language together. I am so thankful to be part of IVHQ. Hopefully, I'll volunteer with IVHQ again soon.
This is my second time volunteering with this organization, and I highly recommend them for anyone looking to volunteer. They are well organized and provide complete support around the clock while you're abroad. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and very responsive. You gain valuable experiences with the locals and the culture that typical tourism cannot offer. I've found immense satisfaction from my volunteering experiences; it's truly the best way to give back.
My time at the Bear Refuge was truly remarkable. I felt supported and uplifted by the organization throughout my stay. They maintained regular communication and provided valuable follow-ups. This Refuge left a lasting impression on me. The individuals I encountered, along with the history and culture of the area, were incredible. Learning about the bears and their lives was both inspiring and moving. Projects like these have a significant impact. Stepping out of my comfort zone and putting in hard work has shaped my character and made me a better person. At 70, it presented challenges, but they tailored the experience to suit me. I encourage everyone to volunteer, embrace new experiences, and make a positive impact.
