If you are looking for a travel consultant who goes above and beyond, then Where it All Began is the company for you. We have now used them, specifically Philip, for two trips: South Africa and Uganda. We are currently working with him for a return to South Africa for 2027.
Philip helped us curate a biking trip in South Africa and a Primate Tracking Trip in Uganda. He was prompt in all communications while planning and while on the trip. They will handle as much or as little as you like. We are the type of travelers where I want every detail taken care of, and they did. The attention to detail – from the hand picked boutique hotels to the customized web site with our itinerary – made us feel like VIPs every step of the way. Both trips were incredible.

I found this very impressive on two levels. One that she took time out of her day to do this – if you have ever been to Uganda you will know that it is not easy to get around. Two that she is a female business owner and a successful one at that.

We had an incredible holiday in South Africa thanks to the support of Where It All Began. Philip took the time to really listen to what we were looking for and design a trip that suited us as travellers. With his extensive knowledge of the country, routes, activities, and accommodations, he answered all our questions before the trip, helping us decide on the ideal itinerary. His direct relationships with many suppliers meant that we were looked after really well – for example, on our first day, we arrived in Cape Town early in the morning, but our hotel was more than happy to check us in right away. From beginning to end, our experience working with Where It All Began was really great. Always responsive whilst also advising on the best things to meet our wishes and needs. They bring a huge amount of inside knowledge, a great network, e.g. of guides, experience and attention to detail in organising a trip that totally matched who we are, what we like to do and, importantly, our budget. Unlike a couple of other organisations we had reached out to, we never felt that we were being sold something that did not suit us, e.g. everyone tries to sell you Kruger NP when, frankly, it was not the best time of the year to go. After all the planning, our actual trip was amazing, incredible and stress-free. Beyond expectations. Every detail was thought through, booked, and communicated. Every day, we were guided through what we were doing for the day via WhatsApp. When things changed, they were always available, and nothing was ever a problem to fix. We felt totally safe knowing that if anything had gone wrong, which it didn't, they would've been there for us sorting it out. We would not hesitate to work with these guys and and for anyone reading this, we would encourage you to not hesitate either!
Where It All Began played an essential role in planning and organizing our recent month-long trip to the Cape region with another couple. We were attracted to WIAB by its stated commitment to sustainable, ethical travel- which they lived up to in practice. Our goals for our trip were somewhat atypical- as avid hikers and botanists, we wanted to focus on exploring the unique floral diversity and natural history of the Western Cape and Namaqualand during the spring wildflower display. Philip worked with us to build a fantastic itinerary based on our initial wish list, tempered and enriched by his deep local knowledge. He also set us up with several outstanding local guides with expertise in the natural history and flora of the areas we visited, together with a wonderful driver/guide who enlightened us about the history, culture, and politics of South Africa while conveying us safely from place to place. Our interactions with these people, and with Philip himself, were a highlight of the trip. WIAB staff also did a great job arranging accommodations and meals and were in touch daily throughout the trip, making adjustments in real time as plans changed due to weather and whims. This was a trip of a lifetime for us- not just because of the stunning landscapes and spectacular biodiversity of the Cape, but also because of the people we met and the things we learned. Many of these extraordinary experiences would not have been possible without Philip and WIAB. We recommend them enthusiastically!
