We engaged a service for our child, a promising Grade 9 student aiming for competitive pre-med programs at top universities. Initially, we were sold on the idea of comprehensive and strategic support throughout high school. However, what followed was a troubling experience marked by misleading sales tactics and an unwillingness to honor financial commitments.
Our journey began with a meeting where a representative outlined a vision of dedicated mentorship tailored to our child's needs for a long-term program. We discussed a structure that included weekly 2-hour coaching sessions throughout Grades 9-12. However, during the payment process for $5,987.47 CAD, it was not disclosed that the program actually consisted of only 25 (or 50, after complaints) total sessions over four years. This was a significant misrepresentation that led us to commit financially under false pretenses.
After payment, we discovered that the client portal indicated limited "credits" for sessions, making it impossible to schedule weekly meetings. When we raised concerns, the program redefined the "2 hours per week" as a vague mix of independent work and extracurriculars, highlighting the gap between what we were promised and what we received. Our initial emails expressing concerns went unanswered, adding to our frustration.
We formally rescinded the agreement, citing misrepresentation and deceptive sales practices. The service dismissed our claims as a "misinterpretation" and refused to provide the promised roadmap, offering instead an inadequate doubling of the limited sessions.
After escalating our demands, we received a partial refund of $4,613.25 CAD, but a significant portion of our original payment remains unlawfully withheld. This includes:
A $636.75 CAD deduction labeled as a "standard administrative processing fee," which was never disclosed and is unjustifiable given the contract's void status due to their deceptive practices.
$691.38 CAD in fees/interest charges owed to the financing company, incurred due to misrepresentation and failure to notify them properly.
In total, $1,328.13 CAD has been unjustly withheld or charged due to their actions.
This experience has been a costly and frustrating lesson in the deceptive practices of this service. They employ misleading sales tactics, fail to deliver promised services, and hide behind vague terms when confronted with their misrepresentations, ultimately refusing a full refund for services never delivered as presented.
Be cautious of their sales pitch. Ensure every term, session count, and service definition is clearly stated in writing before committing. Do not pay immediately. If a service promises long-term support, ensure the contract explicitly reflects that level of engagement, rather than vague terms.
We are now exploring all legal options, including chargebacks and consumer protection complaints, to recover our money from these unscrupulous operators. Protect yourself from financial and emotional distress. Think carefully before entrusting this service with your child's future or your funds. You deserve transparency and accountability, which this service fails to provide.
We engaged a service for our child, a capable Grade 9 student with aspirations for competitive pre-med programs. Initially, we believed we needed comprehensive support throughout high school. However, we faced misleading sales tactics and an astonishing refusal to honor their financial commitments. The representative presented a vision of dedicated mentorship and explicitly discussed a structure involving regular coaching sessions. What we received was a limited number of sessions, which was not disclosed during the payment process. After payment, we found the client portal showed limited session credits, making it impossible to book meetings. Our concerns were largely ignored, adding to our frustration. We attempted to rescind the agreement due to misrepresentation, but the service dismissed our claims and offered insufficient compensation. Ultimately, we are pursuing legal avenues to recover our funds. This experience has been distressing and costly. Be cautious and ensure all terms are clearly outlined before committing.
