We purchased a Pixel 8a from Amaysim. The phone freezes constantly, overheats dangerously (50°C+ 🔥), and shuts down repeatedly. They rejected my warranty claim with no explanation, apparently thinking this is “normal.”
Amaysim, do you honestly think a phone that hot is safe?
I told them this is my only phone, and I’m now genuinely concerned for my safety — what happens if I need to ring emergency services and it shuts down?
Returned the phone → no report, no resolution. Emails ignored or meaningless. TIO gave them two weeks to fix it — they did nothing. Escalating now to Fair Trading & ACL.
💸 $500 down the drain. Don’t make the same mistake.
The moment I moved overseas and needed basic international roaming for SMS (primarily for 2FA), the service completely broke down.
Despite enabling roaming both on my account and device, I was unable to receive text messages in central London. I raised this issue on 23 January and went through multiple rounds of generic troubleshooting responses — restart your phone, toggle airplane mode, reset network settings, try different networks, etc. None of it resolved the issue.
The most frustrating part was being told to complete processes that required receiving a verification SMS — when the core issue was that I could not receive SMS due to their roaming failure. It felt circular and completely disconnected from the actual problem.
Escalations were slow, inconsistent, and ultimately did not provide a functional solution. If you rely on your number for banking authentication, work logins, or any secure access while overseas, I would strongly reconsider.
Domestic service may be fine, but international reliability and support responsiveness were extremely disappointing.
I am still unable to port my mobile to a different provider due to Amaysim’s abysmal service.
First plan jumps from $15 to $25. When we try to port won't let us as they want to keep number unless we buy new sim to approve transfer.
Very frustrating dealing with then. Talked to 3 people to resolve the issue none interested in helping.

Be careful promises to look after you then change your monthly plan to be one of the most expensive and tell you it's going up next month. Don't be fooled by them. And if you want to keep your banked data you can't change plans. It's deliberate has to be.
I’ve been with Amaysim for more than 10 years. Just had my phone hacked and my Sim turned into an eSIM. Nightmare trying to block the phone number as my email hacked as well. In the end, after hours on the phone I went to a big retailer and paid to retrieve my phone number. Despite several ‘escalations’ the ID team never contacted me to help rectify the situation.
