Review Time
The staff at both Queenstown & Christchurch were great to deal with. The van itself was very comfortable and the whole process from booking to pick up and drop off were very easy to follow. We did have a few minor issues with the van, the radio and the heater, however these did not detract from our overall experience
The process of collecting the van was very poor. Too many people collecting at the same time, no process to spread people across the day. Just sit over there and wait in the queue. More like attending a cattle auction than someone spending a lot of money with them.We inspected the van to find one of the side windows was held in by gaffer tape, so obvious that no one could miss it. A branch was sticking out of the roof and over hanging the side and as we could not see the roof top no one could say what had been damaged. This’s was after supposedly being made ready for collection. They had to take the van away and sort out adding to the time we had to wait.On a positive note the girl who looked after us was excellent and went the extra mile to sort out the issues with the van.
We hired a 6 berth motorhome in Queenstown for 4 adults for a week. Waited an hour for them to do a service on the vehicle. The suspension in the rear was non-existent, making it extremely uncomfortable for the rear passengers (bitumen roads felt like corrugations). Seat cushions had no support at all, including the rear bed area. The noise from everything rattling was deafening. The rear side door was extremely hard to close and even opened on one occasion while driving. Overall, nearly $4000 down the drain.If you're still keen to hire a motorhome, my advice is to limit yourself to 2 adults per motorhome (they're very cramped) and take minimal luggage as there is nowhere to store suitcases (we were in the north island the previous week, so had 3 large suitcases)
Hired a campervan from Hobart March 2025. PERFECT service, great van, very clean. Long wait time to pick up, but I did expect it - because flights arriving duh. The step into the van initially wouldn't work, but they definitely fixed it to my satisfaction. Would definitely use this company again, and this depots staff were lovely, professional, premises were clean and well maintained with a "free donations" shelf of unwanted food or kitchen items from other travellers- great idea to reduce waste. I got 2 large water bottles and donated a block of chocolate and a bag of chips when I returned. 10/10
