Ryan and Sarah hold a ceremonial container rooted in Bwiti lineage with authenticity, humility, and seriousness. Their presence was consistently steady, trustworthy, and reassuring, even during the most vulnerable moments of the experience. They clearly care about creating a space where people can explore honestly and respectfully, and the ethical standards they uphold reflect a sincere commitment to safety, respect, and integrity.
This is not an easy experience, and I felt safe throughout my stay because the facilitators were intentional, grounded, and attentive to the well-being of everyone in the space. Their approach reflects a deep respect for the Bwiti tradition as a living, ancestral pathway of self-inquiry and connection.
This is not a trendy retreat designed to entertain or pamper you. There is no scripted itinerary. The work is participatory and asks something of you. Bwiti is relational, initiatory, and at times unpredictable. The experience is most powerful if you leave expectations at home and arrive willing to meet yourself honestly.
Overall, I felt deeply supported and respected throughout the process. If you are drawn to Bwiti and looking for facilitators who approach the work with authenticity, care, and integrity, Bassé Root is worthy of your trust.
I recently completed a retreat with Bassé Root Missoko Bwiti Church, and my experience could not have been better—it truly exceeded every expectation I had. From the very first inquiry through fina integration, the entire process was handled with exceptional professionalism, warmth, and genuine care.Ryan, Sarah, and Alessandro are outstanding leaders and practitioners. Their expertise in the Bwiti tradition and Iboga work is profound, but what truly sets them apart is their deep compassion and attentiveness. Ryan’s calm presence and insightful guidance created such a safe space for vulnerability and transformation. Sarah brought an incredible nurturing energy and was always there with clarity and support. Alessandro’s grounding wisdom and skillful facilitation helped weave the group into a truly supportive community. Together, they fostered an environment of trust, respect, and profound healing that allowed real breakthroughs to happen. The retreat itself was beautifully structured—clear instructions, thoughtful pacing, nourishing food, and a sacred container that honored both the tradition and each participant’s unique journey. I felt completely held throughout, and the insights and shifts I’ve experienced since have been nothing short of miraculous. This work has given me tools, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose that I didn’t know was possible.Bassé Root operates with such high integrity as a nonprofit dedicated to this sacred medicine and reciprocity with the communities in Gabon. If you’re called to this path, I can’t recommend them highly enough. Ryan, Sarah, Alessandro, and the whole team are the real deal—caring, skilled, and committed to true healing. This was one of the most important experiences of my life. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I'm particular when choosing retreats, more specifically about who I trust to facilitate the retreat and the group dynamics. Ryan, Sarah and their team were great, they promptly responded to my application and inquiries. The welcome call was very friendly, thorough, and built a lot of confidence. Instructions for arrival were clear and simple, they remained responsive even when our flight was detoured and delayed. On-site the team was very gracious, they were very clear with instructions and expectations, and responsive to questions and needs. The retreat held a wonderful, warm group container that facilitated the unique members of our group. I witnessed my own healing, and that of others in magnificent ways because their team was so great. This work is not something to take lightly, and when answering the call I'm grateful I trusted the Basse Root team.
I was so thrilled to go to Connecticut and give my heart and soul to be free of my addiction. I did all preparatory steps, I didn't drink or take any supplements. The first session was what I expected. I felt the second session was not sufficient and I asked Ryan for more, as I felt no effects. He gave me a capsule of something, I'm not sure what. I had dinner at the airport on my way home and drank wine. Four of our group of eight left a day early, and we remaining waited for transportation. The house is shabby, the food cheaply prepared. Not worth th $4,900 I paid. I think Ryan lost his desire to help people, now it's just the money.

I went to a retreat at Basse Root and it was the most profoundly beneficial and important experience of my entire life. I now have what I need to resolve past traumas, overcome bad habits, and develop the qualities I want to embody. I have a hope and optimism that I never had before. When nothing else worked for me, this retreat did. Ryan and Sarah are expert at what they do and took great care of me. Everyone who is able should have an experience like this at some point in their lives. And the Bwiti way is the ONLY way to go for this type of retreat. You will not regret a visit here!
