Review Time
BlueCare Cairns has been extremely disappointing. The organisation is entirely focused on money, KPIs, and metrics rather than genuine client care or meaningful support for staff.
Travel time between clients is unrealistic, leaving workers constantly rushed, and a significant amount of work — especially documentation — is expected to be completed unpaid.
Neighbourhood Leads and office staff have no clinical background, and support for frontline workers is virtually non‑existent. The culture is appalling; instead of collaboration, you’re met with defensiveness, micromanagement, and subtle attempts to push you out. The environment quickly becomes toxic.
Leadership is non‑clinical and lacks understanding of client health needs or the realities of community care. Pay is low, workloads are huge, and expectations are impossible.
Management is disengaged from what actually happens on the ground.
Multiple ongoing complaints raised with the Aged Care Commission.

Old people cannot eat properly, so they are given custard all the time. This custard is over-processed, heated too much, and has very high sugar. Also, they keep getting yoghurt every time. No fruits, no vegetables, no proper protein. Meals are available for them, but we are not allowed to make or give those meals.”
My wife was referred to Blue Care by her occupational therapist at the hospital. My wife was told that the Blue Care wound nurse would supply the materials to clean and change the wound dressing. The Blue Care wound nurse arrived last Wednesday 05/03/2025 with her mobile phone and tablet. She had no medical bag with her and no medical dressings. After removing the soiled leg tubing, she managed to find 2 plasters but she reused the 2 soiled leg tubing which risked infecting the wound and sending her back to hospital. She said that she would visit again today 07/03/2025 but if she could not make it due to Cyclone Alfred that Blue Care would call my wife to notify. Guess what....no call and we had to call Blue Care 3 times and finally someone answered and said that there was a note in the system saying it was cancelled. They were not sure whether they could come Monday so we decided to change the plaster with one that the nurse gave us and discovered that she had put it on the wrong way with the inside part on the outside and vice versa. Instead of spending most of the time cleaning the wound, the nurse spent most of the time ordering medical supplies for treating the wound which Blue Care should have done weeks earlier when we applied for a code from them to get a wound care nurse. We also paid for the medical supplies.Blue Care have a duty of care to train their wound care nurses and must be held accountable for this ethical breach of the Heathcare Act. Blue Care should let the public know how the Government funding is spent. If I could give them a minus star rating, I would. Is there another Home Care & Community Service that could help my wife?
My mother has been trying to get Blue Care to respond to a referral from MyAgedCare for MONTHS! We now have Right At Home trying to get them to respond as well emailing multiple addresses in Blue Care. Right At Home first contacted them on the 14th then followed up on a number of times and it is now the 27th with not even a reply saying they can not do it. Absolutely disgraceful service.
