Started bad, but now - great!!

Started bad, got better! Now after 7-8 months it is great! Just published my third book with I hope more coming! We have embraced the value of each other and it is growing! They are not perfect, but my manager Steve is doing a great job! My Ghost Writer and editors are better and better!

As a first-time Publisher

As a first-time self-publisher, I didn’t know where to start. Book Publishing Lab kept working with me to get everything right. Many thanks to Zoe who helped me at every turn (a challenge because of my genre), and to Harvey Walker, the regional manager, who was kind and accommodating. I gave 4 stars rather than 5 because it was sometimes difficult to communicate by phone. I almost always had to leave a message rather than having a call put through.

Much improved

I am impressed by the follow up from various executives of Book Publishing Lab to correct failings by one of their editors. An offer, at no extra cost, was graciously made but after the trauma experienced I have no wish to re-publish. It seems my experience was an exception compared by the 4 and 5 star comments by other authors. However, that does not invalidate my original comments and what I experienced. It should be taken in context with the follow up from BPL.I AM HEARTENED AND IMPRESSED BY THE EFFORT AND DESIRE BY BPL TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT. WHAT HAPPENED TO ME I AM ASSURED WILL NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.MY ORIGINAL COMMENTS SHOULD BE TAKEN AS PAST EXPERIENCE AND WILL NOT CHANGE. My previous comments:This is a company intent upon finding first time authors and ripping them off! “Worlds Apart” was published in September 2024 without being properly edited. Spelling, grammatical errors, duplication of sentences, misplaced picture and omission were ignored from my final draft. I am embarrassed to admit ownership of “Worlds Apart”. I complained and was offered a special price of $1,000 to correct the errors and omissions. I rejected the kind offer to correct their inadequacy. After two Emails from Quality Control Managers assuring me that the poor standard of editing would be addressed I have received nothing. The last email was in April 2025. This has been a devastating experience. To be scammed to the tune of $4,900 is unacceptable for someone on a retirement limited income and yet I can do nothing about it. Legal action would mean travelling to New York from California, Promises of marketing with Barnes and Noble and other publishers never happened. All I received in royalty was from Kindle was $11 for over 40 books sold.

Scam, Plain & Simple.

A complete and total scam. This is my first book and they seemed like a good company with good prices to work with. The original price they quoted me was $500 upfront for their services. This was supposed to include editing, formatting, review, and cover design. However, once I sent them the manuscript, they said that it would require "advanced" editing and for that it would be an additional $500.Now at $1,000, this was still much more affordable then the other options out there. So no problem, I paid the additional $500. However, once I started receiving the edits, it was clear there was not a qualified editor doing this. What I got back had the following issues- Grammar and spelling mistakes throughout- Missing whole chapters- 4 different format changes throughout the bookI overlooked this and chalked it up to the fact I was getting a low price and made the corrections myself. After sending them the final updated manuscript with edits I had to make myself, I received back a formatted digital copy that had multiple chapter numbers mixed up, and was missing two important chapters. This required about ten emails back and forth just to correct. It was about this time BPL contacted me and said they had a book company that wanted to make a large order of my book. This felt very odd since at that time, they didn't even have a completed version of my book to show to anyone, nor did I authorize them to share my book with anyone other than themselves. And the deal couldn't have sounded any more like an "I'm an African Prince and I want to give you my gold" type of scam. They said I would need to pay thousands up front to get these books printed for the company but they would immediately get paid back by the company and I would make tens of thousands. They offered to send me the offers, but never actually sent them. They just kept asking me to pay. Finally, after moving past what was an obvious scam, I asked to order 3 paperbacks and 3 hardbacks to use for a marketing campaign for the launch of my book. This is where they then tried to tell me I needed to order at least 100 books to order any. I showed them where in their contract they had said the exact opposite. After some back and forth, they said they would send those books, however since then, they have not answered my phone calls nor my emails. This company is VERY OBVIOUSLY a scam and has delivered nothing beyond an AI generated cover, editing that could've been done better by my niece, and a lot of headaches for $1,000.I will be initiating a lawsuit against them in the next week as well as sharing this review on every single review site I can find. I also have a huge social media following (millions) and will be ensuring that every person possible knows who they are, their other company names, their locations, and their contact information. Please do not get tricked into anything by Book Publishing Lab like I did.

Incredible!

This is my second experience publishing with book publishing lab, and they impressed me even more this time. their team supported me through editing, proofreading, design, and layout with real care. i appreciate that book publishing lab's authors keep a major share of royalties. the books we created together look incredible, and i'm proud to have my name on them.

Marketing professionals!

after some frustrating years with another self-publishing company, i came across book publishing lab. i spent weeks reviewing everything carefully before deciding they were serious about supporting authors. the experience was completely different a full team of editors and marketing professionals worked with me closely. every edit was thoughtful, and every suggestion was respectful. the final book was polished beautifully, with stunning cover art and marketing support that actually brought results. it was absolutely worth the investment and effort.

Update on a Horrible Experience

Update: It is truly unfortunate that accountability, responsibility, and trust are evaporating from today's society. This statement has never been more true than when applied to internet companies—not only applicable to my experience with BookPublishLab (BPL), but many companies today. Unfortunately, TL;DR would not suffice as this update requires a modest degree of verbosity. I am resubmitting this review of BookPublishingLab with updated content—a resubmission of a review submitted back in early November. In good faith, I removed the review after receiving assurances from BPL that they would resolve all my outstanding issues, provided I remove the original review. (Apparently, the promise of resolution was a ruse to get my negative review "removed "for the holidays! According to TrustPilot reports, the review had substantial read indicators.)This tactic made me realize why some of the negative reviews that appeared early in the fall for this company on Trustpilot had disappeared. After I removed my review, nothing happened. Just a series of promises and delays. A complete stall job. (Remember, it was the holidays)I am an architect for a major corporation, so I may have access to resources you may not be privy to, so if you do not have access to these resources, and you have issues with any online company, do the following:1. Try to resolve the issue with the company yourself.2. If unsuccessful, continue to step 33. Retain legal representation 4. Contact and submit a complaint to the AG for your state of residence.5. Contact and submit a complaint to the state of operation for the company6. Contact and submit a complaint to the FTC7. Contact and submit a complaint to the BBB8. In my case, it was necessary to contact and file a report with the IRS.You may discover, as stated in the review below, that these companies use different LLCs to hide assets and make it difficult to obtain financial recovery.I have completed all of the aforementioned steps and future actions will be through my legal representation. For my new book and furture works, I will seek out a more established publisher. Good luck and all the best with publishing your book! The original review is below:This company published my book, as promised but the books were NOT distributed to all target publishing sites. Just Amazon. The site references several more. Also, beware of an investment opportunity offer that they may offer. It is a scam. I have not received one penny from the "guaranteed" investment, nor have I received the printed copies of my book that I was promised as part of the investment. I have the signed contracts to prove it. I am working with my lawyer on litigation, which might be difficult. The corporation structure is set up to make it difficult to litigate, according to my lawyer. One final note: the website was changed to remove the suspected LLC. Fortunately, I have a screenshot of the site from September, which shows that the information on the page was there and has now been removed.Update,I received a communication from the company to my inquiry below. The reply was a form email exactly like one used in an initial communication from months ago offering to publish my new book. Completely ignoring my inquiry.I noticed a negative review that I can no longer find on trustpilot. Strange! But I should have heeded that review's warning. The 4.4 star reviews were one of the reasons I went with this company.I started working with them in May 2024. As the other reviewer says, they use common American names. At first, everything seemed to be going well. Then I started noticing promises not being fulfilled, like book distribution to all those sites claimed on their website. They only distributed my book to Amazon. Also, I hired them to author a website, which they did, However, they failed to provide me with access to my own site.My final comment is on the investment opportunity that was offered. I have not received one penny from it, nor have I received any of the books promised from said investment. For several weeks, there was a promise of payment, with kinds of excuses as to why I had not received any funds.I recently received an email from them(10/31/2024) and spoke with them on the phone. They promised to resolve all outstanding issues, but when I mentioned the failed investment, it was all hush-hush. I have not heard from them since.Be wary of this company. Also, numerous LLCs appear to be used. And yes, I have contacted the appropriate authorities.

Highly dependable, transparent and seamless service

I needed help publishing a technical reference non-fiction book. Nora and Harvey made the process seamless, worry-free and easy. Harvey helped get us the right service for an affordable price and understood my needs very well. Nora was an excellent communicator through the entire process from publishing, book designing to copyrighting and ensuring that my needs were met. She personally ensured that the book design cover was at par with what I had requested. Both of them are proactive and I didn’t have to follow up many times with either of them because I already had answers. Overall, BPL is a great service and I would highly recommend them even for those who don’t find their genre on the main page. I took a leap of faith and got through with great success. They are honest and transparent with behind the scenes decision making. Also, their team was able to proofread and edit a very technical piece of work meticulously. I am very happy with their service.

We are delighted to have our family memoir in hand.

My family are all pleased to have our father's memoir in hand, in time, and for a reasonable price. I commend our project manager, Bruce Wilson, for his consistently quick and polite responses to my queries. The expert punctuation and spelling corrections were invaluable; in the future, please consider that even competent writers may appreciate developmental and stylistic editing suggestions, too. We appreciate that BPL accepted an abundance of photos in our book; in the future, more guidance on photo selection and format of submission could be helpful. I appreciate that BPL asks for feedback.
