I wanted to get cheap insurance for my old van that is currently sorned. As it's not worth much and I've never caused or been involved in an accident, I wanted to go with the cheapest quote. My go to is 'Compare the market' and the cheapest quote was Budget. It was shown to have good customer ratings, offered all things I needed (i.e. motor legal protection) and the price was very reasonable.
I had no problems with Budget until my policy auto-renewed when I didn't want it and now they're chasing me for £175 for less than a months insurance on a policy I didn't want to renew.
They, like pretty much every insurer now have the predatory tactic of setting your policy to auto-renew. I am sure this is netting them hundreds of thousands of pounds annually.
I spoke on the phone with their debt recovery team and told them I am complaining about the exorbitant sum they're demanding. I explained the policy elapsed because the bank card they were trying to get paid from had expired. I was put through to the sales team to handle my complaint but was left on an endless loop of being on hold. I then emailed them but no response and now I am afraid they will sell the debt to a debt recovery agency after inflating the sum they deem I owe them.
Unhappy that I have to pay an extra £5.00 a month for the car insurance after being given the quote on line!!!!
Through no fault of my own I was involved in a car pile up in 2021 & lost my car and yet ime still being penalised!
This has been the most frustrating insurance experience I've ever encountered. Complaints are handled poorly, with slow responses and a lack of answers to specific questions. Unfair pricing practices are dismissed and inadequately explained.
I'm truly baffled by how this insurance has managed to maintain a rating above 4 unless there are paid reviews involved. This is the worst insurance I've ever encountered. 1. Calls are handled by an AI that lacks basic intelligence, disregarding the fact that people spend money on these calls without receiving any help. 2. Agents refuse to transfer your call to a claims processor or manager, instead keeping you on hold for over 50 minutes. 3. They are quick to sign you up but will employ endless tactics to avoid processing your claim. 4. Communication is one-sided; claims processors do not provide contact numbers, making it impossible to reach them. They only send directives via email without engaging actively. 5. They will deduct from your account without hesitation, even on incorrect dates. 6. I lodged a complaint with the dispute division and still received no response. If you're looking for peace of mind, avoid this insurance. You might save a little money, but other companies offer much better customer service. A huge disappointment. I had a frustrating experience with the claims processor.
In November 2025, I enrolled in a car insurance policy set to commence in December 2025 for £247. Shortly after, I needed to change my vehicle. However, when I tried to update the policy with my new car—similar to the original—the premium skyrocketed to £550. A 120% increase felt excessive, so I checked prices on a comparison site, where similar policies were listed between £310 and £350. I reviewed my contract and, according to guidance from a consumer advice organization, the 14-day cooling-off period should start from the later of two dates: the policy start date or when I received the documents. Since my policy began on December 10th, this should have marked the start of the cooling-off period. Unfortunately, the insurer disagreed and demanded a £60 cancellation fee. When I requested to speak to a manager, I was informed that all managers were occupied in a meeting for the next hour and that a callback would take 24–48 hours. Ultimately, I ended up paying the cancellation fee as I didn't have the time or resources to contest it further. I will not be using this service again.
The setup was straightforward via comparison platforms, so nothing remarkable there. However, I encountered an additional charge about a week later due to an error in the information received from the insurance database, which indicated I hadn't declared something correctly. This mistake was on their end, yet I was still required to pay for the amendment to the policy.
