Review Time
Check all the positive reviews – most were written in the last two months, and there's only one review from them!I booked a car via phone and WhatsApp from CarsRent.md in Chişinău. The website listed a Lexus NX for 4 days at €260, but upon arrival I was told this vehicle “cannot leave Moldova” and I was forced to accept a Hyundai Tucson for €390. At payment time I was told the card fee would be ~4 %, yet almost 14 % was charged — the final amount was €442, not the €390 originally quoted. They tried to justify the extra ~€20 by saying I had arranged an earlier return outside business hours (this was never mentioned at pickup). The car’s condition was poor: the “check engine” light was on, the vehicle jerked when attempting an overtake, and a rubber seal flew off from under the hood three times (we had to stop on the road and reinstall it in rain). They informed me that their system had recorded multiple GPS alerts stating that the vehicle exceeded 130 km/h, even though we were using cruise control at ~77-79 mph (~125-128 km/h) and did not observe any such speed on the car’s own instrument-panel. According to the company’s stated terms, a deposit should only be forfeited after three such violations — yet they claimed only two and refused the $200 deposit refund. Their website states: “…if the Lessee … infringes the speed limit of more than 130 km/h thrice, the Lessor is entitled to … the money paid … is not refunded.” I believe this is misleading and unfair practice. I do not recommend this company and feel other customers should check very carefully before booking.
