I booked a car hire on line from Avis at Nice Airport. I am a BA gold card holder so I am entitled to a second driver free of charge. Avis are very reluctant to publicise this and you cannot book this option on line so I clicked the box to pay for a second driver and made the necessary payment. I pointed this out when I collected the car. On returning it on 12/1/26, after adjusting for this (which was their mistake and not mine), they produced a calculation showing they owe me €43 but their final statement adjusted this to zero. I contacted them on the same day and despite three chasers, I haven't heard a word
I would also add that we regularly hire cars from Nice airport and they are generally in an appalling condition and filthy. This one came with the service light on during the hire, two more alerts appeared

Absolutely shocking !! Picked a car up at Brussels Airport. I was reassured and told that due to the recent road closure on the way back to the airport drop off that I could bring the car back and a price of €1.6 per litre would be charged. This was on a printed poster on the front desk and I double checked with the lady to make sure that this would be the case. We drove a maximum of 220km round trip to Brugge and returned the car back 5/8 fuel bars. They charged me to a full tank of fuel of £70 !!!!! £70 for 135 miles. Absolutely disgusting customer service. Would never rent with Avis again. They sting you like mad. Avoid Avoid Avoid !!!!!!!!!!!!
Hiring a car from Avis Limoges Airport was a total nightmare from start to finish. Everything was made difficult and not at all customer friendly. The service was appalling and unhelpful. Payment, pick up and returning the car was a trial. & 3 days later I'm still waiting for the final invoice & for the deposit to be returned. DON'T USE THIS AGENCY.
On November 17, 2025, at 4:30 PM (16:30) Montpellier airport , I was the victim of a deliberate scam orchestrated by one of your employees. The employee in question was a male, in his early 30s, short, with pale skin and a heavy beard. Here is how this employee scammed me:1. THE BOOKING: I had a fully paid (196 EUR) reservation for a Premium/Elite category vehicle (BMW Series 1).2. THE LIE: This employee refused my rental, claiming my driver's license (renewed in 2024) was "new." This was a BLATANT LIE. I provided an official government-issued Driving History Certificate proving my 9+ years of experience (since 2016). He arbitrarily rejected this official document, demanding an old physical card, which is an absurd and fraudulent policy.3. THE PROOF: I have rented a Premium Lexus ES300 from another Avis branch and BMWs/Mercedes from other companies with these exact same documents. This employee was the only one to "have a problem."4. THE SCAM: The real reason for his lie became clear: There were NO Premium/Elite vehicles on the lot. He sold a car he didn't have. He also refused my request to switch to an available SUV.5. THE THEFT: He forced me to accept a Standard Peugeot 208 (a barebones car with no parking camera) and CHARGED ME THE FULL 196 EUR PREMIUM PRICE.This employee (male, short, pale, heavy beard, working Nov 17 at 16:30) is a con artist who is actively damaging the Avis brand. He is running a bait-and-switch operation.
An unpleasant experience booking a rental via Ryanair with the Avis franchise at Limoges Airport. Our Ryanair flight was delayed but we still got to the rental office desk before the posted closing time. No-one was there. Other renters had been given codes to unlock key boxes but these did not work. Ryanair staff said they were unable to help as they had no link with Avis. After a while someone was able to reach the agent who returned to the desk. Those with codes were able to get their vehicles. We had not been given a code and the agent insisted for about 15 minutes that we did not have a booking, until he eventually located it and gave us the vehicle. The car was fine. A final irritation- the charge appeared on my card as being from Booking.com not Avis, so i had to figure out whether it was genuine. Meanwhile at the adjacent two rental companies, helpful staff were efficiently assisting their clients, including on the Sunday when we returned our vehicle. So other rental options are available at Limoges airport.
Was given a car at Marseille airport with no fuel (after being reassured at check in the tank was full). Luckily we made it to our destination an hours drive away, but I then had to pay for 2x full fuel tanks and have not heard a single word from customer service in the last 2 months since lodging my complaint. For such a worldwide brand, they are the worst. Stick to the local car hire companies who want to do good by you!
Charged for fuel despite me filling the car up before return AVIS Nice train station. Customer services won't respond to my emails. I have gotten one reply saying the fuel must have been at a higher level at pick up. This isnt possible as I refueled to full a 2 minute drive from the drop off spot. The fuel charge they added to my bill was even higher than the cost of fuel it took to fill the car at the petrol station. Shame because otherwise the service was fine. But hidden and sneaky costs are a no from me. TAKE PHOTOS OF THE FUEL ON PICK UP AND DROP OFF!!!!
