We booked a rental car through Check24 with Hertz at Barcelona Airport. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed, and we realized we might not arrive before the rental counter closed. We tried to contact Check24 at 8:07 PM, just minutes after their customer support line closed at 8:00 PM. There was no emergency contact available, leaving us completely on our own.We then attempted to reach Hertz directly using the phone numbers provided, but none of them worked. With no way to confirm whether the counter would still be open or if anyone would wait for us, we had no choice but to cancel the reservation. As a result, we lost the booking, were charged a cancellation fee of 35€, and had to spend €100 on a taxi to get home.The most frustrating part? When we arrived at the airport, the Hertz counter was still open, and staff told us they could have waited for us if we had contacted them. All we needed was one working phone number or any form of support.This experience showed a total lack of customer care and coordination. One call could have saved the entire situation. Very disappointing service — we cannot recommend Check24 based on this experience
They have finally resolved almost satisfactorily the outstanding issue: refund of cancelled booking. It took a while though. What remains is the losses caused by uncompleted information in the booking documents. We lost 135€ for that reason, even though the actual cause was Hertz rather than Check24.
Please don't book rental cars with Check24!!! The "€0 deductible with 100% refund" is a big lie and won't be refunded in the worst case scenario!!! The insurance company always finds a way/reason in the fine print to refuse to refund the deductible, and Check24 was completely unaccommodating (despite being a customer for years)! In my case, it was €2,400, and I went to a lawyer. Unfortunately, Check24 seems to be untouchable as an intermediary and can do whatever they want!I can only recommend booking directly with the rental car company and taking out insurance with them. Then you'll be better prepared in the event of a claim than with those charlatans at Check24!!!
I am expat living in Spain, and I always have caveats to try to understand the meaning of legal terms and coverages. She very patiently explained to me what exactly is covered, what counts as a claim, what conditions there are and all the possible processes, very pleased, and if you expat and have questions in regard of anything, try to get OLGA on the phone! :)
