Laurence is a first class English tutor and he has helped my daughter enormously. She enjoys Maths and Science much more than English but Laurence’s methods are really having an impact. I must say that Laurence is also very kind and patient. My daughter suffers with anxiety and he has been very understanding and helpful when she hasn’t felt able to fully participate in a lesson.
Our younger son is best described as lovely, sociable and bright, but also as bored in school and not studious. He had been an enthusaistic and creative writer and voracious reader in primary schoool but, with the constraints of the curriculum and so many other better things to do with his time, once in secondary school he had slipped behind (and, of course, the pandemic did not help). With English being a core subject, and with writing underpinning success in so many other disciplines, we were desperate to get him some help. I found Laurence by luck and we arranged to speak. It was immediately apparent that he totally understood our situation and that he really 'got' our son too. Since then, Laurence has engaged our son in weekly online sessions – and this has given him renewed confidence as a writer and student. We could not have found a more enthusiastic tutor. Those weekly sessions are some of the hardest work our son does, and he knows it, but the results are carrying across into other disciplines. We highly recommend this tutor.
My son always struggled with English Language due to his dyslexia, dyspraxia and autism and only gain a 3 in his GCSE. He resat in the October and thanks to Laurence’s help gained a 5 after only 6 weeks of tuition. Laurence was friendly and adapted to my sons needs.
My son hadn’t got the grade he needed for English so we booked in 8 sessions. They were fitted round the times we could do, were v interactive and my son was v positive about the style of teaching and the impact it had. He made previously difficult concepts easier to understand and pick up and he went on to pass the December exam. Definitely recommend.
My daughter was predicted GCSE grade 5 in both English literature and English language. We knew that she could do better than this, and all she needed was a good tutor to refine her English. Luckily we came across Laurence’s website and started lessons with him on a weekly basis, and after only a few lessons we started to see improvements.Laurence’s techniques helped improve my daughters essay writing skills, structure and also her time management. We were delighted when my daughter received her results that she had gone up by 2 grades to a grade 7 in both English literature and English language. Without Laurence’s help this would not have been possible! I would highly recommend Laurence as a tutor and I will not hesitate to use him for my son in the near future. I can't praise Laurence highly enough. Both his teaching style and engagement with my son were excellent. We approached Laurence in November 2021 as my son was struggling with English despite achieving high marks in other subjects. English just didn't click with him. After seven months with Laurence he improved from grade 4 at mocks to a grade 6 GCSE result in Literature and from a grade 5 in mocks to a grade 8 GCSE result in Language! We opted for the two hour per week option which, being a 'step by step' problem solving approach to English, suited my son's learning style. Laurence gave him loads of tips and hints for successful exam technique and boosted his confidence in, and enjoyment of, the subject. I would highly recommend. Thank you Laurence!
A brilliant outcome !After working hard for his GCSE mock examinations my son was at a complete loss trying to work out where he was 'missing the mark' in his English examinations and ending up with 3s and 4s. As a top flight student in maths & science, he clearly needed help to turn this around and prevent it from limiting his next move. As a Mum I really didn't know where to begin to help then I found Laurence and what a transformation! My daughter was predicted 7/8/9 in most of her subjects apart from English (6). She didn’t know where to start revising for English and never would have practiced essay structure or writing on her own- somehow Laurence had her doing this without even a grumble ! We asked Laurence for help only a couple of months before GCSEs as she started panicking her English may stop her getting into the sixth form of choice. My son has always struggled with English Language preferring Maths or Science. He is more of a facts boy rather than imaginative. All through years 10 and 11 and in his last Mocks, he was tracking a Grade 3 which was a concern. The school didn't seen overly concerned but knowing the impact it would have on our son with potentially having to resit his GCSE and limiting his options going forward, we chose to look for a tutor that would be able to help and offer guidance.I found Laurence online and after an initial trial run with subsequent feedback, we chose to proceed further with the Premuim package as time was relatively short. My son didnt actually have any of the face to face or verbal contact with Laurence during his time but the comprehensive feedback provided following each task meant that we could sit down with our son and work through it, drawing on his strengths and weakness and how to improve the content and structure of his writing.My son and I are thrilled to say that he received a Grade 5 in his English Language and is now able to enrol at 6th Form to study the A Level subjects he really wanted. No resit, no more English Language (certainly not one of his A Level choices) and he is able to look forward rather than back. The smile on his face when he opened his results yesterday was priceless being the first grade he looked for and whilst it was maybe only a 5 to some people, in his eyes it sits up there with the 7's he received for math, science and engineering. He even admitted the extra work and effort was worth it.
Laurence is the best tutor that we have come across. He helped to improve my son’s grades throughout the time they worked together. With Laurence’s guidance, my son has been able to get his grades up to A* in his GCSE’s.
