My son has had a really positive experience with Laurence. His confidence has grown over the last 7 months and his anxiety around English has diminished. My son looks forward to his weekly sessions and always says how beneficial they are. Laurence’s approach has suited my son and his learning style. As parents we have been extremely pleased with how our son’s perception and attitude towards English has changed. But most importantly we now have a happier more confident and motivated child.
I contacted Laurence as my son was really struggling with English and was going to be doing his GCSEs soon. I was a little worried to begin with because I felt that my son would maybe need face to face tutoring but after my son and Laurence had the first session I realised that I was wrong. After a few sessions with Laurence my son felt that he had learnt more with Laurence than he had done in years at school. My son lacked a lot of confidence before using Laurence and even his teachers at school couldn’t believe how much he had improved in such a short space of time. My son passed his English and English literature exam and can’t thank Laurence enough. My son went into the exam feeling confident and knowing exactly what he needed to do to achieve the grades he wanted. I will be contacting him again next year when my other son is close to GCSE level. Thank you Laurence :)
I wish we had started the tutoring earlier!!! After a disastrous set of mock results I searched and found Laurence on line.The tutoring is quite intense and I would say the student needs to be committed to make this work, but my son fully engaged and I saw his confidence increase from the first session.With a strong pass in both exams we are very grateful for the tutoring that he received.It was well organised, slick and supportive.Thank you so much!!!!!!I wish I had started this at the start of year 11 or even earlier
My daughter, dyslexic and now yr 12, failed her GCSE English last year despite getting 7/8/9s in maths and sciences. I am so thrilled we found Laurence through an internet search. His teaching techniques have clicked with my daughter; and his gentle, encouraging approach have boosted her shattered self confidence. After just 8mths tutoring, she is now achieving solid/high 7s in mock English papers! I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Laurence to anyone needing English support-he is simply amazing!
I asked my daughter to describe Laurence for the title of this review and I think she summed him up perfectly. She has always been much stronger with Maths and Science and at the beginning of Year 11 had lost her confidence with English, this was reflected in a drop in her predicted grades. I am so glad that my friend told me about Laurence, my daughter was very happy at the end of her trial lesson and was extremely keen to continue. Her confidence has increased and so have her grades, she really enjoys her lessons and has found them so helpful. We would thoroughly recommend Laurence if you are considering an English tutor.

His grades have jumped from a 3 to a 5 within this short period. I am so very grateful for everything you have done to help my son achieve this. A series of unfortunate events in our son's school involving an ever changing set of English teachers and very little continuity made us look for external tutoring in English. Laurence was fantastic in all respects. He knew exactly how to help, his material was up to date and very relevant, and he had a significant effect on our son's progress. He is obviously very passionate about his work, and extremely effective. Highly recommended.
When our son didn’t pass his English GCSE, he told us he’d never be able to. What Laurence has done, above all, is given him the confidence to put pen to paper and have a go. Our son now feels he’ll go into the exam able to pass, which is a great turnaround. The 2 hour sessions involve time for students to work independently. If they are finding something too tricky, they can contact him for more support. Laurence then builds on their work and demonstrates how to develop it effectively. No homework, no dry lists of words to learn (“a simile is…. A metaphor is…” etc.); everything is completed in the session. Our son hasn’t once complained about logging on for it, which is honestly something I would never have predicted. I never watch or listen in so can’t comment on Laurence’s specific style; I just know that it’s working for a reluctant learner. Thanks Laurence.
We were recommended Laurence for GCSE English tuition and how grateful we are that happened! Our son is a naturally strong with mathematics and science however struggles with the more creative subjects such as English.The teaching methods that he uses with my son are so compatible with him and he really understands how my son thinks and learns..this was almost from the word go.My son really enjoys his lessons with him and since having the sessions with Laurence, the majority of his grades have improved..not just in English! I cannot recommend Laurence enough, he has been a godsend. He is a dedicated and professional practitioner, which these days you do not often see and I am very grateful that we still have him til the end of the academic year.
