High prices and significant problems with the chat function and assistance reflect a nearly monopolized product. The overall user experience for the exam itself was fairly good, but the help I required afterward was a frustrating cycle of repeated questions and an overwhelming array of chat topics, followed by an unresponsive chat agent and lost inquiries.

Avoid the TOEFL test due to lack of integrity

Avoid the TOEFL test if you have alternatives, as you might be paying for nothing. My son took the test at an accredited center with strict supervision. TOEFL deemed there were inconsistencies and invalidated the test without explanation, leaving us with no right to appeal and no refund. This feels completely unjust as my son did nothing wrong. We lost a significant amount of money and valuable time for university applications. The impact is substantial, and there are no explanations from the institution. We could retake the test at our expense, only to risk invalidation again. This is outrageous and feels like a scam.

Unreasonable scheduling at 3 AM with no support from the institution. If you have another option, consider it! I booked the exam and was given a time slot at 3:00 AM, which is entirely impractical for such an important and costly test. The system did not clearly indicate that this was an early morning slot, which is misleading. Clearly, it is impossible to take an academic test properly at this hour from home. When I sought to reschedule or get a refund, the institution refused, citing their cancellation policy. This failure to recognize my situation resulted in a loss of money and income due to rescheduling. Many others have faced similar issues, indicating a known problem that remains unaddressed. Be cautious when booking, as their customer service is rigid and unhelpful.

I purchased the TOEFL Home Edition for specific dates but was unable to complete either due to severe technical issues caused by their system, leading to financial, academic, and emotional distress.
