First time (and last time buyer). I tried to purchase a $450 wooden carved item thru Itsy about 3 weeks ago. I received notification today that Itsy has had a problem with the seller and that I should file a dispute with Itsy. Instead I canceled the purchase on my credit card and informed Itsy. Itsy then credited $450 to my Itsy account instead. They had a problem with their seller so I have a credit that I will never use. I canceled my Itsy account today and will continue refusing to pay the credit card the $450 charge. I wonder if there really was a seller or was it just a new way to capture a new buyer.
I started selling on Etsy about 3 years ago and once I finally started getting sales, right away I noticed how they would hold your money from you for quite a while before you would see any of it. Once I finally started receiving my money, then I started noticing they started taking down certain items that I had posted and some of them had already been there for a 6 months to a year or so but all of a sudden they were a violation? I continued to sell some of my products and I was doing pretty well and making pretty good money finally and then all of a sudden about two weeks ago they suspended my account and took it down and sent me an email saying that my account has been permanently suspended because I have continued to violate their terms! They said they had tried to reach me several times to discuss it with me, but yet I looked at my email and I did not have a single email from them about a possible suspension, I even checked my spam! The only emails I had from them was telling me that I had a sale, or shipping label email or an email telling me how great I was doing and that I was almost a Star seller!
Immediately I filed an appeal and within 10 minutes, they had already denied my appeal. When they wrote me back about my appeal not being approved they said that I was selling things on their site that you can buy off of other sites but yet there are several other people over there doing the exact same thing it’s called reselling.
So it’s not OK for me to resell items I don’t want anymore, but it’s OK for others to do it? There are people over there right now, selling the exact same things that I was and they still have their accounts, and I know 3 of the people very well! So I am very upset about this and they have not heard the last of me!
They are also holding onto my money for 180 days that they still owe me which I think is absolutely ridiculous!
Customer service is absolutely horrible, The worst I’ve ever experienced with any company out there.!
Ebay, Mercari and Poshmark are much better companies!!
Slap yourself on the hand if you want to sell on Etsy as they dont care about their sellers!! If there is a problem like harassment they will not respond to you. At least with other platforms they respond and listen to you.
I received my order today the quilt and shams are ripped up it's in such poor condition it should have been donated to a shelter or better yet thrown away! The pictures they posted looks nothing like what I got. They should be ashamed of themselves $100 for a completely destroyed quilt and shams that aren't worth $1.
I have been purchasing a myriad of items on Etsy for at least 5 years. The range of shops is outstanding. I never buy from a 4.6 shop or under. I take not that this a marketplace but twice I have contacted Etsy itself regarding a problem and have been refunded immediately. All the shops, bar 2, have gone above and beyond to supply me with purchases I just wouldn't find anywhere else. So 5 years at approx 2 purchases a week = 520 and only 2 duds.
I would like to share my experience and warn the sellers about Etsy's current policies. It has become clear that the platform is adopting a strategy aimed at reducing the number of independent sellers under vague pretexts such as "noncompliance with creativity standards" This tightening coincides with a continuous increase in fees, placing sellers in a difficult position.
Most concerning are the indicators that the platform is entering as a direct competitor to sellers through its own affiliated stores, promoting goods as 'handmade' when the reality may be different. We also notice exceptional support for these stores in terms of reviews and reduced fees, while high fees are imposed on independent sellers. This automatically leads to higher prices for the buyer and pushes the platform's own stores as the more affordable option.
Etsy is no longer the supportive environment for projects that it markets itself to be instead, it has begun to act as an adversary and a competitor seeking to dominate the largest share of sales. I advise everyone to be cautious and not to rely entirely on this platform, which shows outward encouragement to sellers while hiding policies behind the scenes that serve only its own commercial interests.
NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER USE ETSY AGAIN!!!!!! I purchased 2 items for special bdays I was giving a party for. The order was made 1/10/2026-according to ETSY there was NO ADDRESS, just a name, city and zipcode with a phone number. The vendors sent it to the obscure address that I provided ( this is completely wrong because the transaction cannot be completed without a valid address, the company who delivers will not sent a package without a valid address and the seller would not send a product to a place with no address) . Whatever ETSY/seller wants to say I didnt get the items, I didn't get a credit and I was out the money. Today is 2/20/2026 and after HOURS OF GOING AROUND AND AROUND WITH ETSY I FINALLY GOT AN ETSY CREDIT ( NOT MY MONEY BACK) for one item. I'm still trying to get my money back on the other item. NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER AGAIN...I WILL TRY AMAZON BUT AFTER THIS I WOULD NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER USE ETSY
As a former Etsy seller, I am documenting Etsy’s consistent failure to provide transparent support and due process. When internal resolution channels fail, users must understand that Etsy is not above the law.
For arbitrary account closures or unresolved fraudulent activity, I urge all affected parties to escalate their cases to the relevant regulatory bodies. Etsy’s lack of accountability regarding 'Terms of Use' enforcement requires external oversight:
United States: File a formal complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for unfair trade practices and the Better Business Bureau (BBB).
United Kingdom: Report to the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) and seek guidance via Citizens Advice for Trading Standards referrals.
France: Submit a formal report through SignalConso, managed by the DGCCRF (General Directorate for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control).
Germany: Contact the Verbraucherzentrale (Consumer Advice Center) or report to the Federal Office of Justice (BfJ) regarding digital compliance.
European Union: Escalate via the Consumer Protection Cooperation Network (CPC) and the ECC Net under EU consumer rights directives.
These authorities possess the power to investigate systemic failures in platform governance. Corporate negligence is not a business model. Sellers and buyers deserve legal certainty, not automated silence.
Worst place to sell your items... take way too much of a cut, so many BS fees, I've never been late shipping an order and constantly get messages about late shipments that could effect my visibility.... Go with Shopify, it requires more hands on running, but the outcome is so much better.
3 years of my work on designs and after one customer complaint my shop is banned! I have 5 star reviews all are happy and only one customer was so crazy and etsy believed this customer refunded very expensive items I made without asking her to return them to me. What a shame! If this lady found similar design on Chinese platform it doesnt mean I do not make my designs! Yiu are just going crazy chasing dropshippers and shut down genuine stores after a single complaint! Robots answer and no human reviews are made and all is after customer who lied! You allow them take for free our artwork! Steal our business just because you suspect we are doing dropshipping? you are crazy! No creativity standards on Etsy when you allow sell magical spells and some weird spell candles allowing to fool customers and when artizan like me sells designs you ban! No words
and this robot email. Shame on Etsy! I cannot bear this disrespect and I have all rights make some production in China of my designs and it is not breaking any creativity standards. I design my pieces!!!!!
