Reliable and a top quality well built 6hp electric start chipper

I purchsed my 6hp petrol - electric start Forest Master Chipper two years ago so this is a long term review. I use the chipper in the summer and autumn months only and a lot as I have a 2/3 acre plot. The chippings are great for the flower beds. The pruduct has been very reliable in use and still works as good as the day it was purchased and that alone endorses the quality of the machine. It punches well above it's weight and chips everything ( within reason ) with ease. The chipper blades are very good in service and are double sided. I have not needed to change them yet. The electric start battery still performs as when new and has needed no charging despite two long winter periods of none use. The motor is very powerful for a chipper of this size and does not struggle if used the way it should be. It will chip branches well over the stated sise. This has to be one of the best purchase I have made and has made light of work of everything thrown at it. A little tip and nothing to do with the machine however, but my forgetfullness. After you have finished using the machine and are storing it, make sure the fuel tank has no fuel in it. Petrol goes stale if left in situ for a while so use a fuel stabilzer if you do leave petrol in the tank. Also if the fuel goes stale in the carburetor it will not start because there are no octanes in it and it's just like dity brown water that stinks. As a matter of good pratice I drain any fuel from the carb before storing the machine over winter. This is easy and can save you a headache and a flooded wet spark plug and so the engine will not start. On the carburetor bowl there are two nuts one underneath it's bowl and one about half inch above that on the side. Shut off the fuel valve. Open the one on the side and let the fuel drain out of the carb thus emptying the fuel bowl. When filled with fresh petrol when next you put the chipper in service the machine has no problems it will fire up first time. All good practice but it's a simple thing that's easy to forget to do.

It’s an ok splitter for light diy work but failed after 2 years

It’s an ok splitter for light diy work, the steel structure is robust and it works well. However after splitting some logs on only a few occasions over a 2 year period my ram seals burst, and on investigation the ram is in my opinion very much a hobby diy lightweight ram which is not in keeping with the rest of the kit. It’s a weak link that lets the splitter down. Forestmaster do make clear the splitter is for domestic use which is what I used it for but I had expected it to do more than a couple of years occasional splitting before component failure so I’m disappointed. Forestmaster advised 12 weeks to supply replacement seals. I have now purchased a more expensive British Made splitter which is in a different league ( but also much dearer).

Good product but you need to know what you’re buying. Probably better for professional use.

Forest Master are an excellent company to deal with. They are UK based, all email enquiries are quickly responded to and if you call them, you’re speaking to someone almost instantly. They have a Technical Team which deal with specific queries/solve issues and share the same attributes. Customer Support is second to none and I’d rate it 10/5, let alone 5/5.So why an overall 3/5. Well, this is based on my individual dealings with them and my lack of knowledge about what I wanted to buy!Despite exchanging numerous emails with Forest Master seeking guidance about the best product for my needs, I’ve ultimately ended up with a product that isn’t really suitable for my needs and because of the length of time it took to resolve all the issues, I’ve ended up beyond any return window (although to be fair I’ve not actually asked to return it).Seeking guidance I mentioned that a directional chute was important, as that would enable me to direct the mulch into a large bag. This was discussed and I paid extra for this part.Upon receiving the mulcher, I had considerable difficulty putting it together, even when using the link to the YouTube video they sent. It initially appeared I was missing a bolt. I contacted their Technical team (at the weekend and they answered 👍, again a big plus). We discussed and they said they’d arrange for the bolts to be sent out! After a few days they arrived! But I still couldn’t work out how to set up the mulcher. So I contacted the Technical team again. This time I was told, the missing bolt was only needed for the petrol version and they had no idea why I wasn’t told that at the time or why the other bolts were sent out. Next I tried to add the directional chute. Again encountered great difficulty. So back to technical team and was told the directional chute couldn’t be used with the product I’d bought! Now, each time I was trying to build it, I was lugging thus very heavy machine out of the shed and having to lift it back in again. I also had to wait for the weather to be fine when I made each attempt!Consequently, it took me weeks and weeks to set it up! When I finally started using it, I quickly found that I was constantly having to push the leaves down into the entry chute, using a stick, other wise it would clog. Again back to the Technical team who suggested removing a piece of plastic (which was one of the safety features), which I was willing to do.After using it 3 times I mentioned that without the directional chute it was pain, because I had to constantly move the mulcher backwards in order to move to a clear space for the mulched leaves to exit the machine. Again this meant stopping, switching the machine off and lugging it backwards. After these 3 uses I got so fed up I resorted back to my old £100 Bosch leaf blower and mulcher which I bought from B&Q 8 years ago. This was much easier to use.I contacted Forest Master and expressed my disappointment with the product and they advised to take apart the mulcher and put the entrance and exit chutes on an angle which would help. But by the time I’d been given this advice, all the Autumn leaves had fallen and so I’ve nothing to mulch and won’t have any idea until next Autumn if it’s suitable for me!The big disappointment is that if I’d been told before purchase (when I was corresponding with Forest Master) all that I’ve subsequently learnt after purchase I’d probably not have bought this!If you understand munchers (petrol or electric) I suspect you’d find everything about Forest Master, products and support fantastic!

Easy way to split logs

We are pleased to find that this simple device provides a different way to split logs. The blade is so sharp it only takes a few taps to set the log on top and then a heavy stroke or two with a lump hammer does the job.Screwing it onto a stump proved a bit difficult at first, because the drill was too bulky to fit straight above the screw holes. Luckily, found some drill extensions that allowed screwing it in tight.
