Review Time
I signed up for Readly’s free 3-month trial, used the app twice to read two magazines, and decided it wasn’t for me. I cancelled the subscription and genuinely believed it had been cancelled. Despite this, I was later charged £12.99.
This charge is a big deal for me. I already struggle to make ends meet with the cost of living, so an unexpected payment like this really matters. I contacted Readly twice, explaining that I don’t use the service and asking for a refund and for my account to be deactivated.
Both replies I received were identical copy-and-paste emails stating that they don’t offer refunds and that I “didn’t cancel the subscription.” There was no effort to investigate, no understanding, and no empathy at all.
This company seems far more interested in taking money than treating customers fairly. Very poor customer service and a really disappointing experience. I strongly wouldn’t recommend Readly.
Great deal at £7.99 per month, though it doesn't hold the same value at full price. I can access all my motorcycle and car publications in one convenient location without the hassle of paper waste. Previously, I was spending full price on paper magazines (6-7) each month. I plan to stick with the service for the foreseeable future.
This service promotes free trials widely but then charges at the end of the trial period without any prior notice, making it impossible to contact them directly through phone or chat. Legally, they are required to inform subscribers when a free or discounted period concludes and provide an opportunity to cancel. They also must offer a 15-day cooling-off period from when the new charge takes effect. Their terms and conditions are irrelevant if they violate U.K. law under the Digital Markets Competition and Consumer Act. Additionally, I hardly used the service, as it mostly offers titles that are already available for free. Paying £12.99 for this is simply not worth it. It's clear they are aware of this, yet they don’t allow people to make informed decisions. Truly disappointing. I will also dispute this charge with my bank if necessary.
Another service enticing users with free trials only to charge at the end of the period without any notice, and no direct contact options available. Legally, a subscriber must be informed when a free or discounted period concludes and given a chance to cancel. Additionally, a 15-day cooling-off period from the new price is required. Their terms are irrelevant when they contradict U.K. law - The Digital Markets Competition and Consumer Act. Moreover, I hardly used the service since most titles are already available for free. I would never have paid £12.99 for this. Clearly, they are aware, or they would allow users to make informed decisions. Disgraceful. I will dispute the transaction with my bank if needed.
You requested a review after I canceled, so don't complain or respond with your generic replies. It appears unprofessional in customer service. They charge without notifying you, which is unique to this membership. All others I use provide at least 14 days' notice. It’s evident how they catch you. The low star ratings reflect this. I only check the TV guide and a few papers. The content isn't as impressive as some reviewers suggest—definitely not worth £12.99. That's why I only access it during trials. They offered me £7.99 when I began the cancellation and then a month free after canceling, which is an incorrect offer. They didn’t even honor the £7.99 offer or refund the difference.
I read all the magazines I typically enjoy and newspapers. Now, I find myself exploring more educational monthly publications and diverse topics, all for one payment. I no longer feel guilty about accumulating paper in the house.
