A treasure for allergy-friendly croissants

I found a bakery while looking for tasty croissants that my husband could enjoy without his four major food allergies. Fortunately, the central bakery had recently gone nut-free, allowing us to safely buy their bake-at-home products. After confirming this over the phone (their website had outdated information), we ordered from their bake-at-home range along with a loaf of bread. All puff pastry items rose beautifully overnight and crisped perfectly with an egg wash, while the initially modest bread loaf turned out to be unexpectedly delightful. The frozen sourdough for pizza was a hit—our favorite use was making dough balls drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with salt. Although my husband is French, he hadn't had the chance to enjoy truly fresh, crispy croissants until last year; before that, he only had the packaged ones. Watching him enjoy such good food truly brings me joy.

Avoid the mince pies

The filling-to-pastry ratio is shocking, and the overall sweetness is overwhelming. It seems like no one is taste testing, and it's all about profit.

Disappointing experience, avoid them.

I previously ordered baked goods from a different seller without issue until this year's deliveries, which didn't rise at all. I reached out to them and received no response. I decided to give the bakery another chance by ordering directly. A week later, I received an email stating they couldn't deliver my croissants and dough as planned because they ran out of baked goods, and I would have to wait or get a refund. I've tried multiple times now and won't order from them or the other seller again. Extremely poor service, and perhaps I shouldn't expect croissants that don't rise.

Unsatisfactory service and products

The customer service at the local branch was lackluster. I bought an iced bun and a deep Bakewell tart for £7.00. Both items, especially the iced bun, were hard and difficult to cut, tasting at least two days old. Visitors may have money to spend, but not on poor service and subpar products.

Excellent nut-free bread option

Disappointing experience at the bakery

I used to visit the bakery monthly and really enjoyed it. However, during my recent visit, I was disappointed to find that one of their popular items had been removed from the menu (due to financial losses), and many items were now smaller and more expensive. I ordered a bacon sandwich for £6, expecting a substantial sandwich with quality bread, but received a flimsy sandwich with thin, not very fresh bread—hardly worth more than £3. Additionally, I was initially overcharged by at least £2, and even after correcting the price, it still wasn't worth it.

High-quality products and great service

We purchased both a small and large bread tin, and the quality is impressive. We found the small tin too small and opted to return it for another large one. The service we received was very pleasant, and the exchange was offered at no extra cost. I can’t wait to bake more wonderful loaves with these sturdy tins.

Avoid the baking stone

The baking stone advertised as 'preventing soggy bottoms on bread' does not perform as claimed. The bread still comes out with a soggy bottom and remains undercooked. There’s no substitute for a cast iron Dutch oven; steer clear of this product.

Decline in gluten-free sliced bread quality

The once excellent gluten-free sliced bread now falls apart in 8 or 9 out of 10 loaves. Its quality has deteriorated over the past year, and I've been a loyal customer since they started making it. I often find that the top half breaks off due to air bubbles, losing 15 to 25% of each slice, or sometimes the whole loaf crumbles into bits, serving little purpose other than feeding birds. It’s an expensive waste. I emailed about this issue weeks ago and received no reply. I also reached out on social media and got no response. It feels like they don’t care about their product.

Received scratched items that look used

The bread tins I purchased arrived covered in black bits and were heavily scratched. They looked used rather than new. I intended to gift these for Christmas but am unhappy with the condition. I tried to contact the bakery about this but received no response.
