I was forced to switch banks due to the unprofessional conduct of another well-known German cooperative bank.
HVB offers outstanding service: polite and un-bureaucratic — two qualities that are almost extinct in the country. Communications are sent in a timely manner and are clearly worded. When solutions are required for issues not anticipated by German rulebooks, the amazing staff know how to resolve them in a timely and elegant fashion. Thank you!

Longtime customer facing issues

Having been a customer for nearly 40 years, my experience has recently declined. I used to avoid visiting the branch due to frequent staff issues. However, I encountered a problem with online banking where multiple transfers were not processed. I had to reach out to the support team, only to be told to contact the Federal Bank instead!

Challenging for non-German speakers: lack of English support

Having been attracted to this bank a decade ago for its English-speaking staff, I now find myself unable to get assistance in English. Any minor inquiries turn into significant challenges. It's quite frustrating for foreigners conducting business in the city.

Frustratingly slow with no transparency

I’m trying to transfer funds for a car purchase, but the transaction has been stalled for 10 days. My other bank inquired about the status four days ago and still hasn't received a response. The seller is waiting for an export license, which is expiring soon. This situation is incredibly frustrating! How can such a large bank have such sluggish and opaque service?

International banking issues

I work with various banks globally and domestically. While this bank prioritizes security, it complicates processes to the point of locking users out. Resolving issues often requires a branch visit, which is not feasible for those outside Germany. Their international systems are inadequate. I would advise against using this bank if you're not located in Germany, as their customer service and IT infrastructure are lacking.

Outdated security measures

The app and website are overly complicated, especially for international users. The multiple authentication steps make simple tasks feel tedious. It feels like a relic from the past. Additionally, customer service should be available around the clock for all inquiries, not just emergencies. Overall, the app requires significant improvements in both usability and support.

Unexplained account blockage

I don’t understand why my account was blocked. I received a message from the support team instructing me to call, but when I did, I was unable to communicate in English. They blocked my account without explanation, and I am now trying to get help via phone, hoping to connect with someone who speaks English.

Lack of service support

For a bank that operates internationally, having English support is essential. Branch representatives don’t respond to emails, and phone support lacks English speakers. Meetings are often canceled last minute. How can we resolve issues when communication is so difficult? While they send numerous emails for payments, they need to focus on providing adequate service to paying customers.
