Highly disapointed with our experience. My father is an older gentleman and somehow signed up for a subscription for this without meaning to. He was simply looking for photos of one of his cousins who had recently passed away. He never received any reports but has been charged for 3 months of reports and another fee for a subscription for downloads. Another example of a company trying to slip in monthly subscription costs and in this case two of them! We called and pleaded for them to refund the charges and the agent stated this was their company policy and that they did not make allowances, they would only refund the charges from this last cycle. We asked to speak with a manager and she said again we would get the same answer. Not making it very clear that someone is signing up for a subscription is a sad and deceitful practice that has become way to common in todays world. Not making allowances or showing compassion for those who are no longer in the workforce and trying to enjoy their retirement on their set incomes really just speaks volumes. Maybe instant checkmate provides a good service for some people, I can't speak to that but their lack of compassion and lack of desire to do the right thing (or maybe they just don't know that is)....I certaintly would not want anything to do with them and will not support their business in any way.

Avis en FRANÇAIS, followed by a review in English:-----------------(3/29/2025: update in English only)(4/11/2025: update to the update - these relentless spammers just won't quit. The phony reply to this review (also sent by email) is not applicable to Europeans, the email verification they demand leads you to another tracking site, and their 1-800-service is NOT AVAILABLE OUTSIDE THE U.S. - Unbeliebably horrendous level of "service". Luckily, the French data security org CNIL is already on their case.)This data harvester pretends to let you opt out easily. That is a LIE! You can only do so for an email address, but not by name. They stole my data that were produced when buying a cell phone in the U.S. in 2007 - but I am a European citizen living in France! Shows you (a) the "accuracy" of their database, and (b) how the hack am I supposed to remember what long-since-dead email I provided 18 years ago! And now *I* should go through the trouble of calling their 1-800 number (which is NOT tollfree for me!) at THEIR business hours? What kind of crappy "customer service" is that? Their phony, prefab reply to my review is just indicative of the kind of dubious outfit Instant Checkmate is. And now they keep pushing and pushing for my full and current information. The French data protection watchdog CNIL is informed and Instant Checkmate may look forward to a hefty fine. Another despicable American data harvesting company who is publishing personal information online without the person's consent. I never was interested in their services, I just happened to Google my name and found both my name and personal data included without my consent. They can't be bothered if the person is protected by European data privacy laws or not. The opt-out or data suppression functionality is deliberately obfuscated and even if working one's way through it, the "confirmation" link takes you through ANOTHER tracking site. Requests to delete a name and associated data are ignored, you can only "delete" a specific email address. Crooks all around, like all those scamming and spamming data harvesters.

I trust Trustpilot and Reviewers and try to always look before I leap. I failed to do it with Inst. Checkmate. After filling out Checkmate's form then paying, the page froze. I called for assistance but our conversation veered to being unexpectedly asked if I would make a police report based on their information. My knee-jerk response was, "I don't know." (To dissect my "I don't know" - for weeks have been indecisive if it would be worthwhile to make a police report without evidence. Today I decided rather than continue the hand-wringing, it would be more prudent to have a background check.) He interpreted my "I don't know" to mean I may or might share their report with the police, that I repeatedly denied because of a lack of factual information; that their report has nothing to do with any incident as it relates to me and the report is only to confirm (or deny) my suspicions. It was at that point my request was denied for 72 hours until after their review. (I do believe accents, coupled with the poor phone connection helped cause verbal confusion as I tried to decipher his responses.) In trying to get clarity, my last retort was,"so, if I receive your report and make a "mental determination" based on the contents of your report, it's against your terms and conditions? But that's what your business is based on." A background check may give me the impetus to further investigate any court case(s) that may exist. Whether there's a satisfactory resolution, I cannot predict but I want to move on. To that end, I look to the Reviewers for honest and reliable recommendations.

Your links aren't working properly. No one answered the help line. You have my money and I don't have my report. I guess I'll cancel my subscription tomorrow. I need my copy of a death certificate asap. Very disappointed. After searching the site for Help I came upon the comments page. I wish I would have seen this before spending my money. I am getting text from these people but no one has told me that after requesting a full refund, they will return my money. Beware of this site!
Horrible service - do not enroll! Trying to cancel and am caught in AI chatbot and endless phone holds trying days in a row. I am going to cancel my credit card to dump this service! And they charged my twice-once to access information and then a separate fee to download the files. Rip off!
