It's weird, it's a nice modern app with some nice features, but for a last century business model. Everything is so slow.
But a couple of things are a real issue.
You can't undo/reconfigure/evolve a portfolio without selling the contents. That's so weird, unexpected and not intuitive.
And you can't transfer to another platform without selling... giving tax issues... That feels like it should not even be legal.
Those two things have made me stop adding funds (achingly slow process anyway), but what I did fund is now basically stuck. Really wish I'd never tried this app!
It's a trap.
I have practically zero experience with stock and shares other than a flutter with BT and British Gas during the Thatcher government sell off, that was a very long time ago.
As interest rates in the UK are low and inflation is high I need my money to start working for me and after reading favourable which reports I opened an account with Investengine.
As a rookie I got off to a bad start when opening an account, I wanted to talk to an expert for some guidance, but this facility is not available, it's email only and this got me worried.
However, the support I got from Sebastian Ricaurte was superb, concise, easy to understand and gave me confidence to resolve my problems (all of my own making). I'd like to thank him and the support team for their help and patience with dealing with a novice like me.
If anyone is reading this I can thoroughly recommend Investengine to them, I shall be growing my account and as I accumulate experience, will probably move my other savings into investengine.
One tip if I may, as a person of a certain age, I just can't read stuff on a browser. There's lots of articles and procedures to read and I want to read all of it but via a browser is a disincentive for me. Would it be possible to offer all learning, terms and procedures in .pdf or docx format in addition to your blogs and website? If you can I will download and print it all off.
Many thanks
R Nigel Johnstone
I had never attempted investing before and had no knowledge of the stock market. I started with just £200 to minimize risk, as losing that amount wouldn’t be significant for me. As I gained some understanding of the market, I decided to invest another £200. Surprisingly, my investments have increased by 13% over about eight months. The app makes buying and selling quite simple, although my only concern is that transactions aren't instantaneous. Currently, it's a fun experience for me, and I'm learning daily about market operations while gradually building my portfolio. You can start with a small amount to get a feel for it, and it's exciting to observe the daily fluctuations of your chosen stocks. I encourage you to give it a shot, but remember not to invest more than you can afford to lose, just in case! Additionally, self-managed investments come with no charges, though I'm unsure if there are any fees when selling; I expect they would be reasonable based on my experience so far.
I had no prior experience with investing and knew nothing about the stock market. I started with just £200 to limit my risk, as losing that amount wouldn’t be a major issue. As I learned more about the markets, I added another £200. To my surprise, my investments have grown by 13% in roughly eight months. The app makes buying and selling very straightforward, although my only complaint is that transactions aren't immediate. For me, this is a fun journey, and I’m learning daily about how the markets function while gradually expanding my portfolio. You can begin with a small investment to get a feel for things, and it’s enjoyable to watch your selected stocks fluctuate daily. I recommend giving it a try, but remember not to risk more than you can afford to lose, just in case! Oh, and self-managed investments incur no charges; I’m not sure about selling fees, but I believe they would be fair based on my experiences so far.
