Although my overall experience with Islington Council has been extremely difficult, especially after being stalked by a member of staff and still not being properly supported with a move, there is one person I feel compelled to publicly thank.
Mike Hall, the Repairs Team Manager, has shown nothing but professionalism, respect, and genuine care since both the flooding incident and the stalking situation. I am understandably nervous around repair teams now, yet Mike has always handled my concerns with sensitivity and calm reassurance.
Every email I send is dealt with promptly. He ensures the same familiar staff attend where possible, which makes a real difference to my sense of safety and trust. That level of consideration is rare and should not be underestimated.
Mike is a supportive, decent man who clearly cares about tenants and takes his role seriously. I truly appreciate everything he has done for me during a very stressful time.
Mike Hall deserves recognition and, frankly, an award.
I’m a full-time student and this has been an incredibly frustrating experience. I am a student and I called about my summons as I needed help. The tone of staff on the phone was consistently cold and dismissive, as if helping residents was an inconvenience. Instead of support, I was made to feel stupid and at fault for an administrative mistake that wasn’t mine.
⭐☆☆☆☆ Threatening and Unprofessional Behaviour by Parking EnforcementI had a deeply concerning and unacceptable experience with Islington parking enforcement.Multiple penalty charge notices were issued to a motorcycle that was parked in a quiet corner of an estate, fully covered and not obstructing pedestrians in any way. There were no clear or visible parking restriction signs at the exact location where the vehicle was parked. Despite this, tickets were issued repeatedly over several days without any warning or clear explanation. When I politely approached the parking enforcement officer to ask why the penalty was being issued, the officer immediately became rude, aggressive, and provocative instead of explaining the situation professionally. This interaction should be clearly visible on the officer’s body-worn camera footage.During the encounter, the officer forcibly lifted and opened the motorcycle cover, causing damage. When this was pointed out, the response was dismissive and unprofessional, stating that it was “not his problem.”Most seriously, the officer made explicit threatening statements, including suggesting that I and my family could be forced out of the property. This was completely unacceptable and deeply distressing. He then attempted to intimidate further by riding back and forth nearby while continuing to make remarks. At one point, he mentioned calling the police without any clear reason and then appeared to switch off his body-worn camera. The officer also left without providing the penalty notice, stating that it would be sent later. This behaviour caused significant stress and distress to my family. Parking enforcement should be carried out with professionalism, transparency, and respect — not intimidation, threats, or abuse of authority. While I respect council staff doing their jobs, this experience has seriously damaged my trust in the fairness and professionalism of Islington parking enforcement. I strongly believe this incident requires proper investigation, including a review of body-worn camera footage and conduct standards.Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this service.
Fined in Islington for failing to buy resident parking through MyRingo even though it was impossible to buy parking because of the global AWS outage last November, as MyRingo itself admitted. I appealed and Islington doubled the fine. Like dealing with some totalitarian state.
My hot water stopped working on New Year’s Eve. Called Islington Repairs on Jan 2nd. Came same day. After 5 minutes said was working and left. Water still stone cold. Came 2nd time hours later. Stayed 30 minutes and said something needs replacing but will work temporarily. Water still stone cold. Called emergency repairs on Saturday morning. Said I’d need to call back on Monday. Few hours later get a text saying electrician booked to come and look at it on the Jan 8th. Islington council repairs are the worst. Been a resident for 30 years and since Covid the repairs team got worse and never recovered. So that’s going to be 9 days without hot waterIn inner London in 2026. Well done Islington!!

Islington council are one of the most horrendously run councils I’m aware of. It’s not even a single department the whole place is a joke. If it doesn’t make them money they’re totally incompetent. Planning are preposterously bad. If you want to build, just do it- don’t seek planning because they are entirely uninterested in upholding their own planning rules. Dog poop droppers? Drug dealers? Scammers? Gangs of kids smoking drugs in parks, antisocial noise, misuse of disabled parking permits, misuse of residential parking? All of it is fine from what I’ve seen of Islington council. They know that if they huff and puff people will eventually stop asking them to act. They’re experts at huffing and puffing and telling you why solving an issue will be difficult- neighbours abusing the 90 day air bnb rule “huff and puff- it’s hard to prove”. None residents faking their residential status so they can drive to work “huff and puff- I’ll send it in to someone else= no response”What they are good at- is wasting money on things which don’t improve lives in the borough. Wonky pathways which crack within months of being installed, useless climbing walls nobody asked for, refuse collection who leave the streets looking worse after collection than before? That’s Islington.
