I strongly encourage families to thoroughly research reverse mortgages before allowing elderly parents to move forward with one. Our experience was extremely stressful and financially damaging.
We felt that the terms were not explained clearly, and the long-term consequences were much more severe than we initially understood. After our parent passed away, the company moved very quickly to recover the loan balance, and we felt significant pressure even before the probate process was complete.
This created additional emotional and financial strain during an already difficult time. I would urge anyone considering a reverse mortgage to consult an independent financial advisor and fully understand how repayment works after the borrower passes away.
Please proceed with caution and make sure your family understands every detail before signing anything.
It was a long, dragged out process of 7 months. Yet, I'm five starring because Longbridge and my loan officer ...Jerry Auippa...stuck with me through some illogical **** caused by the appraiser that we couldn't get around. And this is with me having been a mortgage underwriter decades ago.
Another good thing about Longbridge is that they service the loans they make. No sudden change of servicer and opportunities for a bad transmission.
The one person that I had a good relationship with while handling the sale of our house after the owner passed away was Tiffany Haluska. I would strongly recommend your company have one person that the seller can talk to you! Some days I received mixed messages, and incorrect information , during a very stressful time!

John Young was responsive and very knowledgeable. Because of the unusual circumstance of the HOA where I live contains both patio homes which are connected and single-family homes, there were a few more hoops to jump through, but John made it very easy. Would highly recommend.

We did encounter a minor paperwork issue due to a misunderstanding by one of the underwriters. However, considering the complexity of a reverse mortgage and the necessary government involvement to protect homeowners, it's understandable that some paperwork challenges may arise, potentially prolonging the loan finalization. My loan officer was excellent in navigating this process and played a key role in resolving the misunderstanding we faced. Overall, my experience was very positive, and I am incredibly thankful for the reverse mortgage, which will allow for the restoration of my historic home. Many thanks to the company and the expertise of my loan officer, who was crucial in making this loan happen within a relatively short timeframe.
Melissa Tofighi was wonderful she really helped us get through a process that can be complicated at times. Melissa and Jeanmarie Bostick took the time to explain the process and whenever i had a question they responded in a most timely manner. Melissa and Jeanmarie's very upbeat and positive attitude was reassuring and kept me upbeat and positive as well. Melissa saw me as a person and not just a mortgage to close.
