Review Time
Ive had a B class mortgage with them for years. I renewed over the phone less than a month ago, decided to review the mortgage doc's that were mailed to me. On phone we agreed to a rate and term.
Once reading cost of borrowing, I see $1500 (periodic admin fees). Lol, WHAT? No, this wasn't mentioned and I didn't agree to it!
So I phoned and spoke to the same agent. Very nice lady, however she's only able to do what she's told.
I don't blame her at all, but NO respect for National Bank. Now I know, and definitely will replace their mortgage before the next renewal.
terrible bank,,went in the branch on 103st edmonton to transfer a fair sum of money from the atb...waited to speak to somebody...then they said sorry no one was available to help me..they were gone for lunch,,it was 3 oclock in the afternoon, or i could try another branch in sherwood park or st albert..just what i want to do is drive around for hours to see if they could help me....poorest service or a bank...keep your money else where
As a customer forced to transition to a new bank, I can't express how eager I am to relocate my funds. I'm stuck with a GIC that matures after the migration date. The new bank's interest rates are exceedingly low, their service fees are shockingly high and all-encompassing, and there's no option to link with another bank, meaning all transfers need to be done via a specific service, which has daily and weekly limits that make it difficult to access my money. Contacting customer support requires at least an hour of waiting, even though they claim the average wait is just a couple of minutes. I honestly can't fathom why anyone would choose this bank willingly.
This has been an incredibly frustrating banking experience. After the company acquired my previous bank, they took over my accounts, which were originally set up for earning interest. Unfortunately, their interest rates were significantly lower, prompting me to move my funds elsewhere. Living in an area without a branch of this bank made it necessary for me to attempt to close my account via phone. After spending over an hour on hold, I decided to hang up. Each time I tried to resolve an issue over the phone, the process was excruciatingly slow. The final straw was discovering I had accumulated $65 in interest, but they provided no means to transfer those funds over the phone. Ultimately, I told them to keep the money and ended the call.

This is the most unhelpful bank to deal with online. I was unable to connect with an agent through chat, as I was constantly directed to call instead. I prefer online chat for its efficiency, but I never had access, regardless of the time I tried. The phone wait times are excessive. Once my loan is paid off, I will never engage with this bank again.
One star is too generous for my experience. I received a statement for an account I never opened. My first attempt to resolve this led to an empty promise of a callback that never happened. Now, I'm on hold again, waiting to reach someone. If they're this careless with potential fraud, I can't trust them with anything else. There are far better banking options available. I will never be a client.
The staff and management at the local branch have become incredibly rude since the merger. They were helpful before. I visited twice this month to deposit a check, and both times they made my experience unpleasant. I would advise against visiting this branch. It's as if their dissatisfaction with the name change has been directed at customers.
If I could give a negative rating, I would. The employees lack knowledge about products and promotions. I qualified for a promotion but was told I didn't meet the criteria, and they won’t return my calls. I will be closing my account and avoiding this institution in the future due to their poor customer service.
