Review Time
3rd time dealing with this company, 1st time was excellent, 2nd was acceptable, 3rd was downright incompetent. We supplied the script and images but somehow Olympia still managed to add in various spelling and grammatical errors. We caught most of them but sadly one made it through to print, Olympia’s answer ‘well you signed it off.’ They dragged their heels at every corner, when we expressed concern about how long this book was taking they said they were still in the time frame as written in the contract, then they went over the time frame and only really started moving when we threatened involving a solicitor. I don’t know what has happened internally at this company, but it has gone down hill at an alarming rate.My advice to anyone thinking of using Olympia Publishing - avoid, avoid, AVOID!
They give absolute no one’s a chance to express themselves - with many thanks! (I’ll add a longer review because I read a really disparaging one). Like anything in life, you have to be patient with any projects you undertake in combination with other parties - my personal experience, having also done my research before investing and placing trust in Olympia was to go with the flow. I find them to be a truly authentic and energetic driving force behind the need for as diverse publication of books as possible. They don’t seem to be driven by profit, which myself I also wasn’t - so perhaps it’s this compatibility that compliments us both well. Marketing is a subject matter which most people find challenging to overcome, the pricing point of my book makes it easier for me to market and it even opened my eyes to how much household names add to profit margin their own publications. If people like me are interested in other people’s stories, they will find your book and read it if they want to. Part of the motivation to reach out and publish my own - which Olympia have done to their utmost capability I believe, as did I as someone who doesn’t particularly find writing that easy. Thanks again for enabling this new chapter to begin…
I want to share my exceptional experience with Olympia Publishers. The staff was closely in touch with me for every step and action item throughout the entire production and publicity and marketing processes. Their depth of experience was reflected in the editing, the cover design of the book, their responsive emails, their author hub, the guidance they provided, and in every milestone deliverable. Olympia has the critical relationships with Amazon and Barnes & Noble that gets your book out there on their websites and available to the public. They will contact bookstores, newspapers, book clubs, radio stations, newspapers, magazines, and libraries for book signings and interviews. Their publicity team also create social media and marketing materials, graphics for you and their social media profiles. Very impressive. I give Olympia Publishers the highest recommendation.
My experience with Olympia has been entirely positive, I have have just published my second book with them. I know they have experienced some staffing changes and my customer experience has always been helpful and professional. Over the years I have had experiences with bad and even scam publishers. My experience with Olympia is entirely a positive experience.
I would not characterize this publisher as a "scam", since they are forthright about being a "hybrid" model publisher when they can't offer a traditional publishing path. However, the web site isn't transparent as to how many books are picked up as traditional publishing projects and those that are published with the financial contribution of the author. This is what I carried away from my experience with Olympia: (1) I do not believe any serious or detailed effort was made to proofread my manuscript. I've seen and have had several typos pointed out to me in the published work. I had the manuscript proof-read twice by independent reviewers and they caught a few things, but some errors still remained. The final proof should be the responsibility of any publisher. (2) They, for whatever reason, insisted that the spelling within my manuscript be changed from US standard to British Standard, yet I am an American author. (3) The cover art had a small error and, although the proof showed the graphics centered, the final paperback print had the edges cut to set the lettering off-center -it looked less than professional quality. (4) When the e-book went out for publication on Amazon, the title was posted, but the book content was from another book altogether. My book is young adult, but the content listed was for adult readers and laced with profanity and sexual content. I had to write to Olympia to correct the matter and it just made me feel that they were just "mailing it in" when it came to production. Imagine if I had not caught the error early. What I might call a "scam" is their claim that they will market the work. All they did was to have the book sent off to the three online retailers they said they would and send me a 30 second video of the book cover graphic and part of the book blurb with some music for "my use." No effort was made to do any kind of advertisement or marketing. So, if you are looking to have that sort of service, you are better off self-publishing and exploring ways to promote your own work. I don't see a rosy future for such publishers in this new age of self-publishing services that can be used at either no up-front cost or at a fraction of what Olympia charged me - and at a fraction of the time to market (they took a year from contract signing to release). Save your money and go with self-publishing because you'll have to put in the same effort with the final product anyway. They are not a scam, just "less than" and amateurish.
Avoid! I chose to publish my third book with Olympia after they did a good job with my first two. My children's books are a passion project and mean a lot to me and this time around they treated my story like trash. They broke the contract by exceeding the given time to complete the manuscript to publication, communication was near non-existent and they actually edited in mistakes! The final copy is not up to a satisfactory standard. And I can already anticipate the ridiculous response from the editor, the "were sorry you feel this way ..." well its absolutely unacceptable. Thank you for taking what meant the world to mean and treating it (and me) like trash!
I was able to get my children's picture book published by Olympia, via a hybrid contract, and based on my personal experience, I would consider Olympia publishing to be a total and complete scam. It's been over 2 years since my book has been published and I've yet to receive a single cent in royalties, and no matter how many times I try to contact anybody at all in the company, whether it be phone or email, no one will respond to me, and I've never been paid anything at all.On top of that, I can tell you that my experience with Olympia, from the very first point of contact, to the date of this writing, has been nothing but appalling and I have only the worst things to say about the company. My recommendation is to avoid Olympia publishing completely. It's been 3 weeks since I posted this, and I would like to provide an update. I have been paid my royalties since this negative review came out, but no one at any point reached out to me to discuss righting wrongs of any kind or even apologize. Everyone can see that Olympia responded to this review, and said they would reach out to me or I could even reach out to them and discuss something that could be done with marketing. Well, nobody will respond to me reaching out, and Olympia never did reach out to me. It was a dead end and a lie just like every other occurrence. I stand by what I said, 100%, about Olympia being a scam. They're only interested in your up front money, and that is it. They're quite possibly the worst publishing company out there.
No updates no contact nothing for filled in the contract and to top it off I’ve never received a penny despite making purchases myself to see if the figures would tally up. Stay away from the it’s a CON for all your hard work. If I could give them no stars I would… they took my my money and my work… only advertised it when I complained.. never sent me any marketing materials. Did a shoddy job on the blurb and synopsis which was a copy and paste a paragraph I wrote. My sales are down even though I know for facts that purchases of specific numbers have been made on certain platforms it’s never shown. When asked to address it will be resolved but never is. 3 years of working with them worst thing I ever did.
