There is no way to select 0 stars, but if i could that would be the rating. we adopted a chihuahua/Jack Russel terrier mix from a shelter and used this joke of a "DNA" test. the test took a long time and when we got the results, it was Husky, German Shepherd and Pit Bull. there is no way there is any husky or shepherd in this little guy. and then try to get customer support? doesnt happen. no response.

I mailed my dog's sample 6 weeks ago and the lab never started processing it, saying it must have been lost in mail. Ancestry did offer to give me a new kit but said they would absolutely not process the first one, if for some odd reason it did finally show up. The problem is my first sample was from my dog who was sick and passed away a few weeks ago so I can't get another sample. In addition, when concerned about it taking over 3 weeks to show
received, the company said not to worry because it often takes longer. Now, my dog has passed and I can't get another sample and they wont even process it if it does arrive if I get another kit. I would like a replacement kit as I have other dogs and paid $69 for the first one but I had my heart set on knowing what mix my Ranger was. Very long process. Would not use them again. Very insensitive as well.

Avoid this service, poor communication and lost sample

I regret spending my money. I sent the kit on November 13, 2025, and they extracted the DNA by November 24, 2025, but then I heard nothing. When I called on January 16, 2026, to inquire about the issue, they mentioned putting in a ticket. This leads me to believe they lost my sample, as the PDF they sent regarding my pet's data contained no information. What a disappointment.

Wish I could give it a 0

Wish I could give it a 0. Website worked fine all the way until October 2nd when said analyzing dna and for two days now my page won't load and neither will the support page. As someone above said nothing but an unhelpful bot. Wish my kids would of read the reviews before gifting this to me.

Inaccurate results

Inaccurate resultsIf I could give a zero I would, I was hoping for a partially accurate test but there test is way off. AI pictures have more of an accurate option then there test. I have a 25 lb small dog /puppy in shape really no extra weight with a large head and their test says it's a chihuahua 87 % and a shih Tzu 13%. If you spending money go do the research other options available along with the negative reviews . This test is so far off and generic , not sure if they had a training class and didn't have the time to review accuracy before sending the results out. Look at Ancestry.com | BBB Better Business it shows a lot.

You don't want to read the reviews because the promise of knowing your dog's breed is so exciting..

5/1/2025 I purchased 2 Doggy DNA kits from Ancestry.com. In creating a profile, the app asks you what your best guess is as to breed of the dog. I know that I inputted "Pomeranian and Pekingese" for dog #1 as that's what we were told at his rescue. The samples were mailed back and "analyzed" and our results were posted 7/8/25. We are to believe that dog #2, our rescued mutt, is a purebred shih tzu, despite the fact that he is much bigger and looks nothing like a shih tzu. I could not recall what guess I inputted for him and it turns out there is no way to find out. Regardless, dog #1 came back exactly 50% Pomeranian 50% Pekingese. Quite curiously coincidental after the flub with dog #2. These results reflect that the samples were clearly not analyzed. I have reached out via the Ancestry process; submit a complaint on their site, and someone will email you. No one has emailed me for a week after 3 complaints. I finally called Ancestry themselves today and was told that the transaction was non-refundable. They never asked why I was requesting a refund. This was the second time I called. The first time, they put me on hold to find my account. For 10 minutes. I hung up and called back, was denied a refund, and when I questioned it, the line went quiet. The agent was still on the phone but decided not to speak anymore. This is highly unprofessional, and I just want the situation rectified.

Would make it zero stars if I could

Would make it zero stars if I could. Completely failed test stated my results are back and then the website glitches so nowhere to see the results. No way to contact ancestry only a chat bot that doesn’t help with anything. Absolute crock of shit don’t waste your money

Save your money

It took months to get results and when finally arrived-the characteristics both physically and personality-wise were unrecognizable. And as always -saying my dog is a chihuahua😳I’d heard they call everyone’s a chihuahua. Save your money on this site. Horrible experience all around.

Not convinced with the accuracy

We wanted to find out our rescue dog's dna as he's definitely a chihuahua cross. We were told by our vets that jack russell and whippet were in the mix, however ancestry came back with 91% chi and 9% "coton de tulear". Our dog has short smooth fur, large upstanding ears (think Dobby) and a long snout and looks absolutely nothing like the coton (never heard of this breed before - long thick white coat - a bit like a maltese) so don't know where that came from. They had a picture of him from his profile so would see (if they looked) how off they are
