The downside is the exchange rate is lower or worse that competition but reliable.
Remitly was a disaster! We spent over an hour on the phone with a woman telling us she received one photo but not another with the passport. It's our money, and we wanted to send $200.00 to a friend in India. They asked how long we had know this friend, when we last saw him, our annual income (very adequate) and if he was a relative. We answered all the questions, and they cancelled the transaction.
Western Union sent the money immediately, no interrogation and no problems. Guess who we will use next time?
I had a very disappointing experience with Remitly. They suspended my account without giving me a clear reason, and when I contacted customer support to ask why, they would not explain anything.
I use money transfer services to send money to my mother, who has terminal cancer (late stage), so this is not a small inconvenience for me. This was one of my main ways of helping her, and having my account suddenly suspended without transparency caused me a lot of stress during an already painful time.
If a company is going to suspend someone’s account, the least they can do is provide a clear explanation and proper support. Based on my experience, I would be very careful using this service.

Remitly placed a hold on my transaction without justification. I complied with their requests, uploading my government ID twice. However, customer service has been an absolute nightmare of conflicting stories and unprofessionalism.
First, a representative called 5 hours later demanding the same details, and hung up when I questioned why my uploaded ID wasn't sufficient. When I called back, a different representative, Hareesh, changed the story, claiming my account was "too old" and then shifting blame to the recipient's wallet account demanding to channel my transaction to bank account instead.
After 2 years, this is how you treat customers? It is shameful to be treated as if they are providing a service in a third world country while operating in the UK. If you don't want to experience this degrading treatment, I strongly advise taking your business elsewhere.

Terrible experience! Spent most of the day on the phone trying to figure out why my transfer was being held up. Got transferred to one person after the next, put on hold about 20 times, with their phone line clicking off twice after two separate 30 minute+ waits. Never again!
It appears that this application has significant issues, as individuals are posing as DoorDash customer service representatives on the platform @x. These individuals attempted to defraud me of $437 under the guise of a staff tip refund. I was told to download the app and put in my information to send me a refund. Visa caught it and flagged it as fraudulent activities and my card was declined and the refund was cancelled.
These are just useless. Created my account and tried to make transfer. Status was still verifying after 2 days and no update. Everytime when I ring they keep on asking couple of other irrelevant questions or the questions I already answered. Not recommended.
