We had a great experience renting a campervan. Staff were very helpful and the process was very smooth. The campervan was just as described and had the bedding and cookware that we needed for our trip. Pick-up and drop-off was straightforward and I would definitely rent with them again!
We had a great experience with the van, they picked us up from the airport and dropped us off at the hotel in Keflavik at the end of the rental. We had platinum insurance and that was very much needed since weather conditions are unpredictable in Iceland, better safe than sorry. During the rental of 6 nights we had no issue with the campervan, everything went smoothly and it was comfortable to sleep in the back. We really loved the experience and we would definitely rent from the same company next time we’ll be in Iceland.
I had a Caddy for 7 days at the end pf Nov 2025. everything went well. car was perfect for one person. did about 1300km and had no issues. night setup is straightforward once you get a good routine. Rent.is was good value and will happily return both for Iceland and to hire a camper. highly recommended!
We rented a 4x4 Toyota Hilux Campervan for 2 weeks in October. The collection and return arrangements were excellent, but most importantly the vehicle suited our needs. i was a bit concerned that we may have gone overboard on the 4x4 aspect given the condition of the main roads we encountered seeing other motorhomes satisfactorily using the same roads. However, we then encountered a snowstorm where all the roads were covered with deep layers of snow or compacted ice. Then, the 4x4 came into its own and provided a safe driving platform. Two experiences we found in driving such a vehicle is that there are always plenty of fuel stations on our routes, but open campsites can be a bit rare in the east in October. All in all an excellent way to look at Iceland and an excellent rental arrangement with Rent.Is.
Overall a good experience. Everyone is very helpful and responsive to emails. No hassle picking up or dropping off. The van was in sound shape but 270,000km is on the high side and it was showing some signs of wear. For the price we paid, can’t complain and would recommend.
We rented a VW California for 5 nights in October. When we arrived at the airport in Keflavík, the shuttle driver was really easy to find. The rain was torrential and for some reason the driver of the shuttle didn’t feel like being able to see through the windscreen was important, so he barely used the wipers, which was both confusing and worrying. They don’t cost anything, mate!The van we left the office with was absolutely terrible. We should never have been given that van and we should never have accepted it. I was too keen to start the adventure to stop to think “this van is horrible”, and I take responsibility for that. Where to start? The van’s diesel tank was empty, the tyre pressure sensor warning came on immediately. Three of the tyres were overinflated and one was under inflated by 20psi. The floor had a scorch mark where someone has put down a hot pan, the interior plastics were mostly cracked, the privacy blinds didn’t stay shut, the wiper blades made a GOD AWFUL noise like they should’ve been replaced 10,000km ago. The pop-top had mould looking crap in it and trying to lock it down into place seemed a lot harder than it should have been. The worst part was when the wiper blades STOPPED WORKING in the middle of torrential rain at night at 80km/h, followed by the roof leaking. That was a rough night. The next morning I phoned the rental place up about it and they couldn’t have been nicer about it. They agreed to send a different van, even though we were 3 hours away from their office. The new one that we were given was sooooo much better and our mood instantly improved. However, this van also had TERRIBLE wiper blades. Is there something about Iceland and their wiper blades? I live in Scotland where we get significantly more rain than Iceland and I’ve never in my life seen such poor wiper blades. Replace the bloody wiper blades, people. They’re not expensive or difficult to renew. I paid extra for WiFi which was a total waste of money.
